CT Rain
Don't forget, that timing of wind direction, velocity, and high tide is key. They may dodge a bullet if timing works out. Same for other places. Yeah storm surge is tough to forecast. The potential is clearly more serious than Irene, however.
snowman21
look I was told we are losing our MYSTIC feed 6am Mon, I was told we would be running on Gennie power, I texted Kev to let a mutual friend know, did not expect him to post it but that's OKAY. This by the way has been done before. I will update here if I get one. Think of it this way, it prevents worse damage and quicker restoration. Maybe a preliminary plan but nothing I would ever lie or exaggerate about. I know. I don't fault you and know you wouldn't pass along misleading information, as most of us wouldn't. I don't think CL&P would just turn off the entire I-95 corridor which includes the state's biggest cities, not to mention MTA train service. It's just more hype which is getting increasingly annoying.

CoastalWx
Interesting to compare yesterday's 18z GFS to today. It's lock and step until 00z Monday. Thereafter yesterday's 18z GFS took a wider turn from east to west with more of a whiplash west, whereas today's 18z GFS was a little west, but less of a turn. End result is landfall over similar area, but quicker.
weathafella
uh no... read the disco and you will see the did not move it at all This reminds me of the Yankee threads you were in. Guidance has shifted some whether NHC wants to consider it or not. You can't have objective pro mets all say the same thing and you screaming no. LakeEffectKing
The nitpicking on the models is absolutely ridiculous. Some people just can't seem to grasp the fact that it does not matter if landfall is in S NJ, NNJ NYC or LI...at this point it's all about the angle of attack, especially when you want to see where and how extreme the already coastal flooding/surge will be. It does for people living inland...for A.) Where the heaviest precip falls. And people near the shore, concerned about surge/ soundside flooding, etc. B.) Offshore or Onshore

If you read the text on the High Wind watches that are out from the various offices, our area gusts maximally to 60 mph.. A little south, say in NY metro , they list 80mph as the maximal gusts.. For those looking for the very worst wind damage possible, they may have a point knit picking the exact landfall location. Also, for surge, a few miles difference can mean the difference between onshore and offshore winds.

Pretty dead here today. Just an average Saturday. No gas lines or bare shelves at stores. I've seen a lot more frenzy over a six inch snow storm. I think people realize that unless they have a coastal flood issue which affects a very small percentage of people, losing power isn't the end of the world. You can still cook, take showers, make phone calls, go on the internet, etc.

Ginx snewx
This is a total repeat of PS 1 only up close and personal. NWS at the time failed to mention the hurricane which spun up after Grace, only this we have Sandy embedded which will indeed LF. I can not fathom who told Bloomberg that line of BS. snowman21
Yeah...how in the hell do you go on the internet when your router and cable modem need power to work, and when your trusty cell phone is dead, now what do you do? 4G internet and charge your phone in the car if you absolutely have to. CoastalWx
hard to miss a tide cycle with that size and speed of movement, different animal Scooter. Typhoon Tip
Where's Peter Vinkman when you need 'im: "...If we're wrong, we'll go to jail! Peacefully. Quietly. But if we're right - Lenny, you, will have saved the lives of MILLIONS of registered voters.." It does almost seem like we are witnessing a Hollywood cliche though - where the Mayor is falsely re-assuring to the provincial ignorant masses ...just before a Pompean eruption. Watch, that azzhole will get lucky and it will pass to their north and clobber us instead. And I don't even want this damn thing - schit.

Katrina part 2 isn't coming. 80mph winds in a highly populated area with lots of trees is a recipe for disaster. We never see such a duration of high winds in this area. This could be devastating if the models are right. Maybe not Katrina but Irene times two.
