Really brings home what the utilities are up against and why folks complaining about still being without power shouldn't be.

johnc
This willow tried to take a seat, but missed. I took a walk about noon yesterday and I found a tree or large limb down about every block, but every road-blocking limb was cleaned up already. Voyager
One thing that's been curiously absent from any photos so far is the Atlantic City area around the main casino district (Taj Mahal, Resorts, etc). I'm wondering if there wasn't much damage there, or if, for some reason, nobody has been able to get near enough to the area to get some.

I was able to drive through the casino district relatively okay Monday evening. In fact, most of those casinos and some areas to the north still had lights on. However, you could really only drive up and down Atlantic Ave and Pacific Ave, as the rest of the roads were pretty much impassible, especially on the northern end. Once you got more than a few blocks south of the Tropicana it was completely dark.

I just thought, with the popularity of the casinos, something would have been mentioned about them.

I know from what my in-laws told me about their place near Bethany beach DE it could have been a lot worse. That's not to say there wasn't flooding and erosion from ACY on south because there was. Looks like central Jersey, NYC, LI and coastal southern New England suffered the absolute worst (as advertised prior to landfall).

From what my aunt told me, the second set of dunes they added two summers ago took the brunt of the storm surge and the primary dunes were bearly touched. She also said the beach "might" have gotten smaller. Trust me I am very thankful that nothing happened where my house is. Luckily my house is dead center between the bay and the ocean so I feel even if we were on the north side we still would have been ok this time around. tombo82685
Here are some pics from my course. We lost 5 trees. The one maple tree took out the power line, I don't have a picture of that. 2 blue spruces knocked over 1 hemlock knocked over half the blue spruce was taken out, in the end we had to cut it down 3 big branches off an oak and my dog who survived sandy in his rain gear...ray giggles at this picture
johnc
I saw a few trees that snapped at the trunk rather than being uprooted. Is this just because of a weakness in the tree or does it imply that there was a sudden gust?
