We were forecast to see just a rain/snow mix. Instead, there is about 4 and 1/2 inches of the white stuff everywhere! Charleston and areas down that way are under Winter Storm Warnings until 5pm. That was not expected to happen.

My power has flickered on and off more today then yesterday. I think that is due to the wet and heavy snow. Winds are not gusting as high as they were yesterday.

On my profile, the weather thing says it is raining here. I just looked outside. It is still snowing.

Just Spoke to Beau on the phone, They are doing good still no power they are working on getting a gas heater going so they dont have to bundle up tonight... he said it was hard to measure with compaction and everything but probably 28-32" inches in places and still snowing.. He said the snow flakes had gotten alot smaller but it hadnt stopped snowing since it began yesterday. Will update again in a few hours when he checks back in

Just got back from my second chase to the George Washington National Forest. It is coming down good there. Temps are above freezing so only about 5 inches on the ground. But My son insisted he had to see snow. And of course I couldnt turn down the chance to get into it again. Only about 30 minutes from Winchester. Take 81 South. Second exit for Strasburg is 55. Take that west and you will hit the snow in about 8 miles.

Followed this exactly and saw snow in a little over an hour.

When I first saw the snow:

Turning in to george washington national forest:

After going up the path in the forest snow was significantly deeper!

It was coming down pretty good at one point and accumulating on the slush tracks on the road.

Thanks Beau, great photos, I saw the reference to this thread in the NNE one. The higher resolution ones are so much better for computer desktop images. I grabbed the one of the front of the house with the flag – I always love snow stacked on railings.

Wx Weenie.....Glad you took the trip. That is my go to spot whenever there is an elevation dependent snow event. Sometimes its amazing how much of a difference 800 feet makes. Hope you enjoyed it.

By the way, your pictures are much better than mine. I need to get a camera at some point.

Thanks for the tip to go there had a great time, crazy how it went from all rain to accumulating snow so fast.

I used an iPhone 5 for the photos

Mt Nebo, WV checking in with 3 feet of snow and more to fall still tonight

I absolutely love snow and severe cold to the utter exclusion of everything and everyone else, for all time.

Anyone in West Virginia need shoveled out? You know who to call.....................................Jeb!!
