No flakes here today as well. Came close though. I see Dubuque went down to 1/2 mile in snow late this morning. Very cold light rain fell most of the day, adding up to 0.23". Still a decent drizzle floating down out there under a very heavy overcast.

EDIT: DVN included the first mention of snow for the season here for next mon.

I swear to God I'm not making this crap up. I have weather related dreams a couple of times a month. You don't?

Sure, but it's usually good weather dreams. Like about blizzards and stuff. Haven't had one in a long time...though I think it's seasonal dreaming for me. :D

I'm the same way, lately I've been having one or two dreams a week at minimum, usually relating to a fictional snowstorm or wintry system at the least. Thankfully, I have yet to have a nightmare like Snowstormcanuck's.

I am jealous of NYC snow tonight, but eh, let em have it....Ill take it when it will have staying power of more than 10 hours lol. Last year, NYC got 2.9" of snow on Oct 29/30....but did not get their first freeze til Dec 10th, and after that Oct snow did not see another FLAKE until they got a T on Jan 13th!!! Weird weather over there.

Wondering if we may see our first measurable snow Mon night? Will be nothing significant, but MAYBE a few tenths?

Powder is the best. Nothing explains winter post-storm than a foot of powder.

Agree. I should have elaborated...I like a wet snow at the beginning and end of the season...during winter....I primarily like powder. I will take anything, but prefer powder. Lay down a foot of powder than get a few tenths of fluff for added sparkle...perfect!

Med range 12zGFS says "Hello zonal flow"

It would be nice to have a Thanksgiving snowstorm, havent had one since 2005. Its only Nov 7th, so I am WAYYYYY early with even suggesting such a thing....but im really intrigued if this will be ANOTHER Nov of low snowfall here. Not that it hurts winter, its just interesting. We are definitely overdue for a snowy November.

Heres an interesting note.....LONGTERM average, if you use Detroits entire 130+ year period of record, for November snowfall is approximately 3", with a season average of approximately 41". The 1981-2010 avg Nov snowfall (1.4") cuts that in HALF, while the avg seasonal snowfall (43.8") is about 3" MORE. And looking at the past 10 years, the separation is further increasing (though if the end result is the same, I will happily take a decrease of November flakes and an increase of rest-of-the-season snow!)

Last 10 winters....Nov snow & season snow at DTW:

2002-03: Nov- 1.6"....Season- 60.9"

2003-04: Nov- 0.4"....Season- 24.1"

2004-05: Nov- 0.1"....Season- 63.8"

2005-06: Nov- 4.3"....Season- 36.3"

2006-07: Nov- 0.1"....Season- 30.3"

2007-08: Nov- 0.5"....Season- 71.7"

2008-09: Nov- 2.2"....Season- 65.7"

2009-10: Nov- 0........Season- 43.7"

2010-11: Nov- T.........Season- 69.1"

2011-12: Nov- 0.6"....Season- 26.0"

10-yr avg: Nov- 1.0"...Season- 49.2"

MBY past 10 years...(dtws numbers 2003-05 were suspiciously low)

2002-03: Nov- 3.5"....Season- 66.9"

2003-04: Nov- 0.7"....Season- 36.6"

2004-05: Nov- 0.7"....Season- 80.7"

2005-06: Nov- 4.8"....Season- 41.9"

2006-07: Nov- 0.3"....Season- 36.3"

2007-08: Nov- 0.7"....Season- 78.2"

2008-09: Nov- 1.9"....Season- 64.8"

2009-10: Nov- T........Season- 46.1"

2010-11: Nov- T.........Season- 69.4"

2011-12: Nov- 0.6"....Season- 25.5"

10-yr avg: Nov- 1.3"...Season- 54.6"

LASTLY...a little history of Detroits Nov - seasonal snowfall averages..look at the futile 1930s-50s, Novembers werent bad at all!

1880s: Nov- 1.9"....Season- 47.3"

1890s: Nov- 3.9"....Season- 42.7"

1900s: Nov- 1.9"....Season- 46.3"

1910s: Nov- 1.6"....Season- 39.7"

1920s: Nov- 3.4"....Season- 46.1"

1930s: Nov- 3.0"....Season- 32.9"

1940s: Nov- 2.6"....Season- 27.6"

1950s: Nov- 4.7"....Season- 37.2" ***snowiest decade for Novembers***

1960s: Nov- 2.1"....Season- 31.8"

1970s: Nov- 4.5"....Season- 45.6"

1980s: Nov- 2.3"....Season- 45.2"'

1990s: Nov- 1.5"....Season- 37.3"

2000s: Nov- 1.1"....Season- 45.3"

Look familiar?

Pretty good signal this far out for a "shorts and flip flops" Thanksgiving. Hint, + departures at that range tend to get worse...or better depending on your perspective. Even so, big +AO spike, MJO into unfavorable phases, etc..."consistent" mild/warm pattern should start around the 16-17th. Hopefully it's relatively short lived and we see a change towards month's end. Hopefully.

I added "shorts and flip flops" for dramatic appeal. :D

But yeah, hopefully it's transitory in nature...and we can get back to a cooler and hopefully active period as we enter met winter. We're getting closer. Hopefully it's a good winter for all. :)

That post is hard to look at. I guess that's all we can do is wait and see of what becomes of the AO and other players.

Freak... It's been a good amount of years since we have got a solid Nov system. I agree we are due.
