stormtracker
Just took a stroll out and man...it's a scene. Got a few good gusts out there, lots of Fire trucks racing past and hardly anybody on 14th street. Very odd sight.
mappy
Glad you're ok, Ian. Under a lull with the rain right now, winds are still gusting nicely
jacindc
Amazing to look at the map on this page (second graphic) and see the DC area with such low numbers. http://mema.maryland.gov/current/Pages/PowerOutages.aspx
wxmeddler
Could a transformer blowout (or a few of them) trigger a lightning detection? Since the METAR was in AUTO mode that means any lightning was detected via the National Lightning Detection Network.

WinterWxLuvr
It sounds like NYC is taking a beating. Please guys, stay indoors. Weather is not worth your life. I seriously doubt anyone that has ever died in a storm planned for it to happen.
clskinsfan
Just had a 60 MPH gust at KOKV (WInchester)
Bob Chill
Did a quick up and down the block with the dog. 1 beautiful blue flash and one ominous green one. Quite the mini-rivers running down the sidewalks. Ground totally saturated. Gusts are pulsing every 30 seconds or so. Best guess is 50-55mph. Might be tuff to hit 70 tonight but will b close. iammrben
Not nearly as bad as I expected Could be that the map doesn't include Pepco utils. If you look at the Pepco site's map, you'll see that their coverage area roughly follows the countours of the lower outage areas on this one. Just a thought.
