samdman95
Interesting how NYC airports are getting gusts in the high 70s now, but our time for that will come too.

mattmfm
Only 14K without power in Pepco, incredible. Think derecho took down a lot of the loose limbs and probably preventing a larger power situation in DC metro.

TradeWinds
You have to be in a sheltered location perhaps or because I'm on a high point in FDK? My house won't stop shaking. Sustained has to be over 30 mph right now.
clskinsfan
Just went out for a walk. It is raw and nasty out. 40 degrees with sustained 40 MPH winds. Gusts over 55. It has been sustained near 40 MPH for 3 hours out here. Pretty amazing and I cant even begin to imagine sustained hurricane force winds. I dont ever remember in my life being in heavier sustained winds. Not from any Noreaster I have ever been in. The center just hit shore at 8:02 so it may get worse. LGA 74mph JFK 79mph I don't think it will reach upper 70s in most places but the worst is still to come. That said, my inner weenie is afraid that it wont get much worse than this. Kmlwx
derecho was also packing 60-80mph straight line winds though Yeah but soil is much softer now and the winds have been long duration. Usually your power can go out in the PEPCO area if somebody sneezes.

09-10 analogy
Went back out. I just have to experience this. Winds gusts over 60 I'm pretty sure. I was standing at a street corner and a gust came by and I had to brace myself, and I'm 6-2 175. Has anyone reported any lightning and thunder? I saw the sky light up and then heard a rumbling noise afterwards. It might have just been the overlap of a transformer blowing and the wind, and I haven't seen any other reports. I did see a transformer blow closer in.
southmdwatcher
Can we expect a period of intense gusts later like what is occuring in NYC/LI area down here from DC south to the Bay. There was talk yesterday of two wind maximums, one at Long Island and the other over the DC area?

JeanineJ
Looks like the "eye" is approaching my area (Harford Co. Md) Are we done now with the really strong winds? Or can I expect strong winds again later tonight? The worst seemed to be right around 5-7pm.
H2O
Some dude in Fairlington or Parkfairfax was shooting off fireworks – yes, fireworks – about 25 minutes ago. It wasn't a bunch of transformers going at the same time?
87storms
Yeah but soil is much softer now and the winds have been long duration. Usually your power can go out in the PEPCO area if somebody sneezes. the wind so far around here has been just tame enough to not cause too much damage in my opinion. as soon as i think a huge gust is coming, it sort of levels out. so far i really haven't been too impressed with the wind, certainly not something i haven't around seen here before. that said, it's gametime now, so if we start getting consistent 60+ mph gusts, then i think it could be enough to cause damage (not that i want that because losing power sucks).
