Thinking the primary concern this time is uprooted trees with the saturated ground.

Me too actually.

As a side note, I lived in ILM for a majority of the '90s. Before Fran arrived, there was some similar thought that maybe Bertha 'helped' clear things out and damage wouldn't be as bad. Nope, totally different monster. 'Blown by Bertha, ****ed by Fran' is a saying I'll never forget.

Winds just got a little frisky. Just got finished securing stuff and did my good deed for the neighborhood by checking the drains at either end of the street. Both are pretty clear of leaves. It's not exactly a "tropical" feel out there, either. Raw and chilly with a slate-gray sky. In fact, the sky looks something like it at this time of day on December 18, 2009.

no car :(

Before I had a generator I used a car battery with clip on cig lighter adapter. I could charge my phone at least 20 times.

For less than 100 bucks you can buy a battery, charger, and cig adapter. Takes away a lot of stress when power is out for more than 12 hours. Especially when your a net junkie like most on here.

Media Alert – Preparations for Hurricane Sandy

Contact: Clifford D. Tatum

DC BOARD OF ELECTIONS PREPARATIONS FOR THE ARRIVAL OF HURRICANE SANDY

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The District of Columbia Board of Elections is closely monitoring the progress of hurricane Sandy and is in frequent contact with Homeland Security and other agencies to determine the best options for early voting site operations on Monday October 29, 2012. At this point, the board is monitoring weather forecasts and will make a final determination later this evening.

“The Board will not make any determination on Monday’s status until Sunday night, when there will be a clearer understanding on the storm’s track and its impact on the region," said Clifford D. Tatum, the Board’s Executive Director.

Citizens are encouraged to visit the Board’s website, www.dcboee.org, for updates on the status of early voting sites throughout the week.

County Executive Leopold Urges Caution for Morning Rush Hour as Storm Rolls In

Trash collection will proceed on schedule

Annapolis, MD (October 28, 2012) — County Executive John R. Leopold today urged residents to use caution traveling to work on Monday as Hurricane Sandy moves in.

"This is a dangerous storm that will bring downed t...

rees and power lines," County Executive Leopold said. "If you plan to go to work, please leave early and check for road closings before you leave."

Rain and wind will start tonight, with heavy rain and sustained winds of 35-45 mph (gusts up to 60 mph), starting Monday morning into Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Five to eight inches of rain can be expected by Wednesday morning, with moderate to major flooding to inland rivers and streams. We can expect one to three feet of storm surge on Monday. Anne Arundel County government plans to open on time Monday, but will monitor conditions throughout the evening. Trash collection will proceed on normal schedules.

The County will broadcast live updates on Community Television beginning at 9 a.m. Monday. You can view the program on Channel 98 for Comcast and Channel 38 for Verizon.

The EOC is now open in a partial status. If you need assistance, call at 410-222-0600. If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1. The Annapolis High School Shelter opened at 3:00 pm today. Pets are welcome, but please bring a carrier, leash, extra food, medicines, and rabies shot information.
