Early voting just started yesterday here in MD and it is open from 12-6 today and i got there at 11:50 and there were already 500 cars there already. Im sure it is because of the strong feelings for the gay marriage bill here. I do agree with you 100% though, democrats are always hurt in the turnout department in inclement weather. This could hurt Obama in Virginia and Pennsylvania.

my friend went to her voting station in annapolis this AM and said she waited for three hours

I'm in the same boat. The lot next to mine has a house under construction and the workers left a massive pile of wood, nails and trash lying in the front yard.

Yeah, that stuff is a bit scary as it loves to fly around in high winds.

Here's an example of what's laying around - this stuff is maybe 50 - 100ft SW of my front door (just off the right edge of the photo):

This dumpster looks like it wants to be less full:

luckily there's a good new construction buffer between me and the dumpster

people are aware election day is next tuesday right?....PA doesn't even have early voting so it can't affect that, i'll concede it will have some effects in VA....and even in the case of dramatic damage to the power grid...you really think rural areas (republicans) are getting their power back on before places like Philly....

Again, for those that don't know, I work for the DC Board of Elections, I.T and IVO machine programmer and configuration setup. We were crushed, killed, destroyed yesterday due to early voting, as in most states...and some accredit it to Obama's massive EV drive, which I do believe. But the heavy turnout also had to do with Sandy. At any rate, it was INSANE yesterday...I was on my feet for 14 solid hours with no food or break. Maryland had issues as well. It was just overwhelming and way beyond what anybody thought it was going to be.

The notion that this hurts Obama is absurd. Because, ya know, he needs those extra votes in NY, MA, Maine, NJ, MD and DC. As for PA, there is no EV. Trust me, people are willing to stand in lines for hours to vote and the folks who are Obama supportes are die hard and will turn out. I had so many people in every EV site tell me they would stand there until midnight if they had to. Most election administrations worth their salt have a backup plan. We can afford to close for one or two days, which will likely happen. But if there is no power, there are back up plans.

Exactly. That's why I literally lol'd at Ian and ravens posts. I swear to God I showed our Executive Director the posts and he rolled his eyes (he knows I'm a weather buff and he asks me for updates on the storm)...We're here on a $%$^%@! Sunday. :axe:

Absurd is a bit strong. It won't flip things but there could be impact. If a hurricane was hitting MS I'd say it might cut into Romey votes. There are also studies about bad weather impacting elections. There's no way of gauging what half or more of the final two week stretch being dominated by news other than the election might do either.

Of course it does, I'm not denying that at all. But the election isn't tomorrow or this Tuesday.

Right. If the impact isn't gigantic there's a good deal of time to resolve issues. But if people haven't early voted and have massive destruction etc they're not going to be rushing to vote.

i'd suspect that it's more likely that the actual weather on election day will have a bigger effect than sandy on turnout
