Are we as bad with wishcasting as the sne subforum? Ive never spent much time there but outside of the insanely awesome mets the weenies are relentless with Sandy.

Idk- when our respected mets say the same thing more than once or twice it seems like the vast majority in the ma forum just sthu and learn. Maybe I'm wrong.

That's the guy on channel 4?

On Monday at 6 his exact quote was "we will not be affected at all by Sandy"

yeah tho why people were jumping in to make a forecast at 7-8 days out is beyond me as those calls were pretty much all wrong

but he's not instilling any confidence in his ability given his talk on twitter

I don't watch DC news, but looked in on Wednesday at 6 out of curiosity. Ryan was downplaying of course, saying landfall up the coast. Topper was hedging with some probability forecasts. Kammerer was hitting the storm hard, going with the lower Delmarva hit and an earlier arrival, even conceding that other outlets were going for a Tuesday event, but differing with a Monday impact. He was very bullish then.

i was surprised, as DC TV guys are always conservative. First time I ever watched the guy.

He's definitely a big Euro fan so by then it was pretty locked in on a hit. I did mention when most were saying it was a likely miss that didn't make sense. This is a discussion we've had here plenty--not sure the need to make calls so far out.

My biggest takeaway from something like this is the meteorological community is NOWHERE CLOSE to providing the level of communication they act like they want.

Agreed.

I feel a false sense of concern in attempt to perpetuate their own agendas.

It's sad....

I am sure I'm wrong!

I don't think it's that far off. Weather is a very competitive and massive business. IF the interaction comes together as every model seems to want to show it, someone's gonna get smoked in addition to a lot of places taking a pretty hefty hit. But, there's been a very noticeable free flow of very loose information often backed up with something like "we've never seen this before" almost as a legitimization of taking illogical or extreme leaps. The internet has changed communication so much that short rapid fire sound bites of exciting information are treated as more important than facts in a lot of cases. I'm not sure it's really "wrong" or hurting anyone but I don't believe that it lies within what the seeming interest of everyone in presenting things in a more digestible and trusted format.

Wait a second.....isn't this top secret information? I think we should activate the cone of silence.....

No. Not even close. That interaction you describe up in that forum is long-standing and relentless. No one can step to it.

I went out earlier this morning to get some stuff at the grocery store as my wife and I have guests staying with us tonight. surprisingly empty store, and the bread aisle was even in pretty good shape. the bottled water section was hurting, but i was surprised at the general lack of ransacking. perhaps that'll come tonight and tomorrow?

I need a Saturday am reality check. I've read so much I'm hitting a saturation point. Correct me if I am wrong, but at this point for central MD it is becoming increasing likely we will see sustained winds in the 25 to 40 mph range with higher gusts. 3-6" of rain with possible flooding. Potential wide spread power outages. Anyone feeling like it will be more or less extreme at this point based on current data?

doublecheck b/c we have a 2800 watts to run 28 amps in the RV.

:( I was looking forward to your obs in SnowLand.

I have an older and smaller fridge that is only 700 watt, if that. According to the spec sheet the gen can get that and a couple other small items. I have gas heat so running a furnace is no issue either cause the blower fan is 1/3 hp
