Amusing watching weenie suicides in the SNE thread just because of the Euro Op. Reassures me about the normative aspect of our region's behavior (guilty as charged) during the winter.

lol- I've been spending more time in that thread the last couple days than I have in years combined. I always rely on orh and coastal to stop in our subforum when things are interesting. I've heard rumors about blizz but I had no idea... If anything it's making me realize the non-met part of the ma subforum is pretty darn good.

opinion time. I can get a generator on Amazon for $200 and delivered by Sat. Yes or no?

just do it. you arent moving anytime soon probably and you will have it for years to come for use again and again. $200 isnt a bad price.

You wanna go in half with me and go to New England and buy generators and then we can sell them down here, just have to get a u haul truck. they wont need them up there :P

If you ahd bge or pepco, buying it would be a lock. If you buy it make sure you know how to hook it up to what needs to be kept running. I ended up having an electrician come in and hook it up so I could run it for different things (the well pump or the refrigerators.

Owning a generator kicks butt. Makes life so much easier. Especially if you have kids and a lot of food. I couldn't imagine being without one now.

I went to home depot to get propane and batteries. Pretty quiet an uneventful. Saturday should be interesting though..

Yep, we had that in our house in New Hampshire during the big Dec Ice storm in 08. Had the well, kitchen, bedroom and den all hooked up to it. Had heat, hot water, electricity. It came in very handy after being without electricity for over a week in mid dec. Not fun at all but we survived, even with the house on the market and people walking through it lol

I'm all over that idea. Get CT Blizz to buy a bunch and hold them for us

I did the week without electricity thing back in June, SNE is welcome to that if they want.

The four days without power after the derecho soured my enthusiasm for high wind events. It was soured by the subsequent heat, which tends to do that to organic material and, since I like to think of my emotions as living things, then QED. Now here comes another incident that might dump hordes off the grid for days at a time and, since I'm nothing if not a member of the horde, I'm kinda leery. On the other hand, standard deviations, historic significance, etc., and I've noticed over the past 24 hours, things that would normally tick me off, don't. So there's still a part of me that's getting stoked. If we lose power, I've got a drawer full of sweaters that I rarely wear that'll see the light of day. Some of them even fit my daughter. And if I cut them up, I could make a passable dog sweater out of it, too.

It seems likely that there will be snow in the WV mountains. I know its still early but what is your take on how much? If you could, would you rather experience the snow at Snowshoe or the wind and rain in NOVA? I am considering getting a room Sunday - Tuesday at Snowshoe.

Snow > rain so go for it

Models have consistently given 10-20"+ for the mts so a foot of snow or more isn't out of the question.

If you're in Baltimore, maybe Garrett county is closer? They'll be plastered if this works out.

Just remember if you have a house back here you will lose power and could see flooding.

Can anyone explain why a storm would track south after landfall? Thanks.

Animation is worth a thousand words here. There is simply nowhere else for the storm to go. Look at that block over newfoundland. Absolute brick wall.
