blizzardof09
the purpose of this thread is to analyze and correlate possible winter weather events this winter season with MJO indices. although we are still atleast 4 weeks out until we seriously start tracking MJO indices as there are other bigger players on the field so to speak that are going to determine what our winter is atleast going to look like by mid-november. Currently our MJO phase is in our dreaded " circle of death " and progged to move into phase 1 then phase 8 briefly before returning to phase 1 by october 25th, really arent our best phases but once again its still too early to be seriously looking into this teleconnector. this is merely just to start this thread for when we seriously start using MJO as stated earlier. heavy_wx
This page by the CPC is pretty good for composite maps with the level of significance for each MJO phase http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/MJO/Composites/Temperature/. Snow_Miser
Octants 8/1/2 are probably our best phases we can get for the Winter in terms of cold. They're not ideal for bringing cold conditions to the area in Autumn, however.

They're not ideal for bringing cold conditions to the area in Autumn, however. not this time of year but as we get closer to latter part of october and into november our MJO phases will for sure become more crucial as a tool in sniffing out possible winter storms within the northeast. but for now this is just the kick start of a discussion we can use for the start of our winter season and throughout with lots contributed by our many meteorlogical-savvy members. blizzardof09
not much has changed in the MJO as per the forecast from the CPC to OCT 26 2012. if anything looks to a glancing blow into stage 8 before going to stage 1 by october 20-21st.
