Not sure it is a normal status but the radar app I use sends them.

The first storm moved by me but the lightning and thunder is back with the next storm moving up. Will watch to see if it goes the sake oath as the other one.

Hmmm, interesting. I wonder if that is triggered off of the NWS Special Weather Statements (SPS).

Can confirm the severe warning for that cell as it passed through here. Lot's of lightning and brief nickle-size hail. That's the first time it's hailed here this year, and that's the largest hail I've seen in many years. Crazy for mid-October.

By NWS definition, that is not severe thunderstorm warning criteria. The hail has to be 1-inch in diameter or greater.

Had an extremely close lightning strike earlier. Could hear a sizzle before the explosive sound. Caused me to lose signal to the console from my Davis VP2 weather station, which has never happened before.

Have spent the better part of the last hour trying to reacquire it, but no luck. A call to Davis is in order tomorrow. Hope the ISS unit isn't fried.

Nice storms overnight, around 930pm and then again around 1130pm and then I finally fell asleep, the dog jumped into bed as well, they were pretty good boomers and great light show. The last few storms have produced some great light shows. Not bad for Oct 18-19 and have some mod t storms in the night time hours

Multiple rounds of storms last night (including a big one with nickle-sized hail). Ended up with 1.43" in my gauge. There is a large civil war reenactment at Cedar Creek Battlefield this weekend (I work right across the battlefield on Rt. 11 in Middletown) and I saw multiple Johnny Blues laying on the ground as I drove past. Gusty winds must've taken them down. Good thing that storm happened last night while no one was there. Tonight that field will be filled with tents and campers.

Took a small trip up to Mabry Mill along the Blue Ridge Parkway for breakfast this morning. A lot of fog on the way up and very cool and crisp. Looks like the leaves are past peak here and some trees are nearly bare. I'll post a few pics later.

Check out the 12z GFS at the end of the run where it shows an East Pacific tropical cyclone making landfall in northern Mexico. Its remnants then become a nor'easter that would probably deliver snow to the higher elevations of the Mid Atlantic. Interesting setup, that pretty much goes without saying, probably won't happen.

You could tell it was really unsettled, but I'll admit that I hadn't looked at any weather today beyond the rain gauge this morning.

Knew there was a chance but didn't expect to step out into rain.
