Well, Larry, I am assuming that an all time record low at the end of Oct. would be equal too, or better than two record lows earlier in the month? As far as getting a good winter? And LaGrange has already been in the 30's several nights...so that means lots of sleet down here, right?

And, I guess I'm going to back up Chris as far as the dry is concerned. I mean wouldn't you rather be walking in a nice endless cad regime? Weeks without sun, with a stiff ne cad wind, 38 for daytime highs, and endless drizzle? Hard to see how you can beat a situation like that, lol, unless you were walking the beach in a cold cad drizzle. That would be better! Well, ok, ice cream on the beach in a cold cad drizzle.....that's even better :) T

You're hilarious! Yes, there's nothing like taking a wealk in wind driven drizzle and 38 while eating ice cream! Ahhhhhh, refreshing!

Regarding the potential record cold for late Oct. that was shown on yesterday's 12Z and 18Z GFS (28's for KATL, which would have tied the alltime Oct. record low), it is all history as of the last several runs with the coldest being 34, 31, and 36, respectively, on the 0Z/6Z/12Z runs of today. Still nice and cold on those days, but nothing near record cold.

Yeah, what was 30's here on the 20th 12 days back, was cool in reality, ....not bad for sleeping, but nothing spectacular. I'm really more interested in that low way out there. It has hung around, and gone from moving up thru Ala., to crossing Fla., to who knows what, but always rain for here. I'll take that verifying, and leave winter to it's own devices :)

Yep, walking along Edisto, in winter, eating an ice cream sandwich is special. Get to try out that new winter coat...imagining how much worse the South Pole, or the Bering Straights must be, lol.

You know that stretch two winters ago was exhilerating being the coldest daily stretch for a long while, but it was great outside because the wind wasn't blowing oppressively. It's the wind that kills the cold joy, lol, not the ice cream. T

Latest GFS 18z run has less than 10th of an inch for Atlanta area for the next 14 days. Maybe the worst Autumn ever. No cold, no rain, no work....yuck.

As I mentioned to Lookout, I'm enjoying it a lot because it has been pleasant for walking and just being outside. I enjoy dry, mild to cool weather as we don't get a whole lot of it. It is so much better than summer heat and humidity. Also, the dryness since the heavy rain event of 9/30-10/1 is generally better than lots of clouds and rain as far as the autumn leaves are concerned. Of course, it still remains to be seen whether or not we get a bright and colorful peak. Keep in mind that Oct. is the driest month on average for KATL and autumn is the driest season. There's nothing unusual about this. Also, we've averaged near normal temperatures for the month to date..so it hasn't been warm. We should end the month ~ 1 below normal based on the cold coming in for the last few days of the month.

Om....ommmmm.......ooooommmmm.....Iceeeeeeee Creammmmmmmmmm...ohhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm :)

Man, are you serene.

I was out on the rider today cutting dust, and occasionally some grass, and it is bone dry again. The raspberries, and fruit trees I planted in spring, aren't wilting yet, but I'll need to turn on the sprinkler tomorrow, or the next day. The big rain sank in and it's still damp under rocks, and logs, but the exposed surfaces are going all droughty again quick. I'll be glad to see some rains before long. I think a gulf storm might come along to save us after the eddies from Sandy subside. Hope so. Tony

Tony, Tony, Tony,

As long as the next big rain waits til after the leaf peak, I'll be a very happy camper. That would be a wait of only about two more weeks. Patience is needed. Some smallish rains before then would be ok with me. Eat some ice cream (I'll provide it to you for free) and keep the sprinkler going in the meantime. ;)

Yeah, upper 50s to low 60s for highs, and lows in the 30s will be cold, probably an brisk breeze as well

Yup! Heck... I went that cold here in Columbus. The potential is there for it to get that cold, but I might be a little overzealous about it right now. Oh well, I'd rather people know where their jackets are come Monday morning than be dashing about the house and saying, "Why didn't that weatherman tell me it was going to be cold!!!!!!!!" ;)
