Met1985
43 consecutive hours below 50° in Weaverville. Really strange for early Oct. With all the moisture & low cloud cover I feel like I am in the Pacific Northwest. Same hear Don. I don't remember having a long stretch like this in October being this cold and this overcast for many days,

DCMetroWinston
For central North Carolina, this early October chill is impressive because it even surpasses or matches the Chilly Mid October of 2009. In 2009, RDU had highs of 58, 55, 52, and 52 from October 15-18; CLT had highs of 53 64, 53, and 56; GSO had highs of 53, 56, 53, and 52. This year, the period October 7 to this hour on October 9, the highs have been 65, 52 and 54 at RDU; 55, 49 and 55 at GSO; and 62, 54, and 57 at CLT. Does anyone know if there has ever been an earlier 40-degree high at GSO?

This cool stretch while completly awesome doesn't seem that abnormal to me. I haven't seen any record low maximums reported in the se yet. There were several from NWS Blacksburg. But the cities they publicly displayed records for were in south-western Virginia. 40s for highs east of the mountains had to have set some record low maximums for at least one day...46 was the high here yesterday. My average low is 46.

According to the data I looked up PGV set one yesterday and if we manage to stay below 57 till midnight will do so again today, so we will have set a new daily min high two days running, I will check other location around later but I wouldnt be surprised to see a few other spots doing the same. I guess it is within the realm of possibility for Greensboro to have a record high in the 40's in September, but I am not so sure it has. If not, it would mean that the first recorded 40-day high could not have occurred much earlier than yesterday's 49 at GSO.

NavarreDon
Thur. Morning is looking quite chilly in the Mnts. Here is some of GSP's thoughts. http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=NCZ053&warncounty=NCC021&firewxzone=NCZ053&local_place1=&product1=Frost+Advisory UPPER LEVEL FLOW WILL BECOME MORE ZONAL OVERNIGHT. THE 850 MB COLD ADVECTION BEHIND THE FRONT WILL SHUT OFF DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS...WITH THE SFC PRESSURE GRADIENT RAPIDLY WEAKENING THROUGH DAYBREAK. WITH HIGH PRESSURE LIKELY CENTERED OVER OR NEAR THE APPALACHIANS TOWARD DAYBREAK THU...WILL LEAN TOWARD THE COOLER COOP MOS FOR MIN TEMPS TONIGHT. THIS WILL PUT MUCH OF THE NC MTNS AT RISK FOR AREAS OF FROST DEVELOPMENT TOWARD DAWN. A FROST ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR TONIGHT FOR MOST OF THE NC MTNS...EXCEPT FOR A SLIGHTLY WARMER POCKET FROM LAKE LURE TO HENDERSONVILLE TO BREVARD.
