Eh sorry didn't mean for that to come across like this thread wasn't necessary. There's just already some discussion and pictures in that thread so I posted a link so people could go look through it.

EDIT: Oh and yeah, the central/western is probably the highest quality (and least active...) subforum we have. The Alaska thread is pure gold.

A interesting side note, I am currently sitting here in Anchorage with the lowest sea level pressure, 975 hpa, that I have been under the influence of in over 2 years (last time was the epic Octobomb, 2010 when pressure fell to 955 hpa over MN), and it has been calm all night. Terrain influences here dominate the weather.

I am noticing below normal SSTs in the Gulf of Alaska, some slightly above normals south and east of that, and below normals near California. I wonder if this will help set the trend for strong storm tracks (or if storm tracks are mainly unrelated to SSTAs)
