Tropopause_Fold
close to a sultan signal day 6/7 with that ULL digging down into the GL and some sort of surface development along the coast. if HP can hang in to the northeast could have some pretty deep SE inflow. Yeah all models sort of have that signal. Last week it seemed like the storm may be more towards 10/1 or 10/2, but some different features causing this to possibly occur Saturday or Sunday? Maybe. ORH_wxman
It might be a coldish Sultan signal with that storm developing to our south...though the GFS tries to tug the storm into the Hudson valley which would eventually warm sector us...but the Euro keeps it SE of us. If it stays coastal/offshore, could be a raw Nor' Easter.
toronto blizzard
I wonder if that typhoon will cause that trough to form in the east like what the GEFS and GFS are saying. Will Scott any thoughts?
dendrite
Foliage is coming along well here and we still have some of the biggest acorns I've seen falling. My peaches are doing fairly well too but it was a tough pear season. They either rotted on the trees or fell early.

Sugarloaf1989
Thankfully I only have one of those pest Oak Tree's on my property and this year acorn drop has been very light so far. The last time this tree had heavy acorn drop was in the fall of 2010. Crabgrass has died early this year and lawn growth is slowing down earlier than the last few years in areas where I don't fertilize due to the recent cold weather at night. CoastalWx
Foliage looks about on par for what it should be. It seems fast because of the recent span of warm Falls, but it looks about average from what I remember...give or take a few days.

ORH_wxman
Wonder if that nor'easter would give NNE mtns some snow If the 850 temps were about 6C colder, maybe the top of Mansfield could get a mix.
CoastalWx
Wonder if that nor'easter would give NNE mtns some snow Well it's not even a lock that it will happen. However, seems like something is in the cards. Whether it's a full blowm SOS or intermittent light rain/drizzle remains to be seen.

It seems fast because of the recent span of warm Falls, but it looks about average from what I remember...give or take a few days. Definitely ahead of recent years, but I'd call it 4-5 days ahead of avg (very subjective.) Three frosts last week have started things in earnest, another this morning should help. I'm happy about it, not just normal winterweenyism but because family from Decatur, IL (where fall doesn't begin until mif-Oct) is scheduled to arrive tomorrow for a week, and they hope to see some good colors. It had its heyday though. I'll never forget it nailing the January 2005 storm 84 hours out.
CoastalWx
No more weenie old ETA and RSM on the PSU ewall site as well, when you look at specific model time like 12Z etc.

ORH_wxman
I know...good memories. It had some epics busts too though. 12/30/00 was one of the worst I've ever seen (not so much up here, but down in the mid-atlantic). It was horrible too in the Feb 2006 storm before it was retired in favor of the WRF.
HIPPYVALLEY
Acorns have stopped falling. They all fell thru much of August and early Sept..Now they are all down. Weird An early frost the previous fall will affect the the next years acorn cycles. I don't remeber when first frost was last year... but maybe that's it. Rainfall and humidity also play a role. HIPPYVALLEY
Magic mountain vt made snow last night. WTF?! Most likely testing new guns or compressors or maybe just blowing the chipmunks out of the lines. They are a low budget mountain (trying to become cooperative like Mad River) so I doubt they will run the guns again for a while.

powderfreak
If the 850 temps were about 6C colder, maybe the top of Mansfield could get a mix. lol... ok so we need quite the cold trend. Knock of 6C and *maybe* get some catpaws at 4,000ft. Sounds likely
powderfreak
Magic mountain vt made snow last night. WTF?! Where'd you see that? I can't seem to find any info on it. Not surprising. It is the season to blow out the mice and make some marketing snow. I'm hoping to get on skis sooner rather than later if we can get 6 hours of 29-30 degrees at 1,500-2,000ft...
