Ginx snewx
Oh awesome... yeah just looked and you can see it clearly. Some of those birds now showing up on OKX flying west near Fishers Island. Damn those birds move fast. I almost never pull up BOX radar. Pretty much only if I'm sniffing cirrus in a winter storm or a severe event is winding down and storms are over NE CT. massive bird movement this year? lock it up now. I am in that dead zone between Box and OKX, either the radar way overestimates or way under, often have to use a blend.

Radars are looking at different parts of a storm based on distance from the radar.

Yeah I hear you... in general I don't put a whole lot of stock into doppler estimates. Sometimes they're spot on other times they're a mess... particularly with convection. CoastalWx
perfect example wise ass, which is more correct for NW RI, OKX or BOX? BOX is more correct imo. OKX beam is too high in the clouds and will give echoes higher than what is probably falling near ground level. Not busting balls, but there shouldn't really be a reason why you are in a dead zone. If anything, Kevin is closer to that term. You aren't all that far as the crow flies.

CT Rain
You're looking at different things Ginx. You're looking at OKX showing a beam in NE CT between 7k and 9kft and a BOX with a beam less than 3kft. So you're comparing apples and oranges. If you looked at a higher BOX tilt you'd be sampling the storm at the same altitude and would have a similar display on reflectivity.

Yeah BDL and the valley is covered great by OKX..but my area is in no man's land...Very often I find myself using both BOX and OKX.
