Mr Torchey
Lots of sun and a fantastic fall day, high of 74. +8 on the day Overseeding has come in beautifully, knockout roses are going full bore, sedum a fall bloomer is magnificent along with the montauk daisies. All around magnificent day, enjoying them as the worm will turn in the next few weeks.

HoarfrostHubb
The high temps in the ORH hills/SW NH and points west are going to be quite the shock. Even at the coast..probably 50s, away from SE MA. They might get a quick bump in temps towards evening before falling again. BOX zone has me in the lower 50s... wonder if I break 50 Awesome! My classroom might finally be bearable

powderfreak
WOW, all those worries about crappy fall colors, see ya, ... I will be up next weekend to see the beauty. Yeah I think the precipitation picked up just enough in August/Sept and we've had a textbook weather pattern for fall foliage: Lots of mostly sunny days with seasonably warm afternoon temps (60s and 70s), and crisp nights in the 30s but no hard freeze. 9 of the last 15 mornings have been in the 30s but no lower than 34F (twice). Many days with around 40F diurnal spread which the leaves absolutely love...days like last week where the high/low was 78/34! Monthly departure at MVL is 0.2F so pretty much dead on normal. Compared to last year when September's departure was +3.9F and we only had 3 days in the 30s (as opposed to 9 so far this Sept), this year's foliage is much better and about two weeks earlier than last year. powderfreak
what my personal wishes are this year, and they are just wishes, 1) We get accumulating snow in Oct and then a good winter so we can dispel that myth 2) we get below normal consecutive months to calm them waters 3) We get a wintry March. Thank you. I would love all three of those as well... although I'd take a good, wintery March over the other two if I had to pick. We need a winter that goes out with a bang, instead of 3-week stretches of high pressure.
weathafella
lol, i love it. Speaking of which... it looks like we're going to be chilly tonight. BTV is banking on increasing clouds keeping temps up, but after a high of 57F its already down to 52F and we should be in the 40s before it gets dark. I love these fall mornings... here's this morning with some ground fog and alpenglow on the foothills of the Spine. The foliage is just loving this dry sunny weather and cool nights. Beautiful!! This is my annual "men's weekend" which means about 10 guys ranging in age from 60-70 get together for a hike. Hoping we can salvage Saturday up in NH. We've been doing this for 40 years so the pictures are pretty funny ...lol. Long haired lady's men to old farts making sure we had a bowel movement....lol. Happy to relate more to the younger types. powderfreak
Why? That's OCD-ish. Its like my uncle who mows his lawn at a snails pace and pulls a roller behind him to really bring out the grain and give it that checkerboard look... he treats his lawn like its the infield at Fenway. He is right, I change the cut every week, Kevin just enjoys busting my balls, because I posted a pic from that property in the spring and had it cut that way. You should change the cut though, and I do.

I think the foliage all across the mountains of VT/NE/ME has got to be getting pretty close to peak, so it doesn't matter where you go, it'll be stunning. Its gotten to the point where its hard to even drive around here without wanting to pull over and just look, especially at elevations of 1,000ft and higher. And even if Saturday is cloudy or whatnot, to me the foliage is even more spectacular on those days because the lack of bright sunlight really brings out the colors... the saturation is much better and the hills aren't whitewashed in direct sunlight. Some of my favorite photo times in the fall are when the mountains get that misty, with layers of fog, thing going on...the reds, oranges, and yellows really standout compared to the bland cloudy background. Big yards aren't always going to have the same ruts. Neither will smaller yards with a push mower.

GaWx
Today's Euro weeklies are like night and day vs. those from just three days ago. Today's 10/1-7 and 10/8-14 are so different that it is mind-boggling! Today's basically have a strong -EPO for the first half of Oct. Come mid-Oct., the SST anom. maps in the N Pacific could very well show a sig. PDO rise from the already higher levels vs. last month if this verifies. The chance of getting a +PDO for DJF would only continue to increase if the -EPO pattern were to persist. Talk of an almost certain -PDO for DJF is very premature imo. powderfreak
Nice pics PF. NNE in the Fall is epic. I'll be there Columbus Day weakend. Thanks, guys. I really think this fall will have a prolonged peak foliage period as long as we don't start getting windy rainstorms. There's still a decent bit of green speckled in with the more vibrant colors, but that just means that as those vibrant ones start to fade in another 7-10 days, the still-green ones now will pop and continue the great color. Last year the foliage was so late it just all turned at once and quickly in mid-October; it was only peak for a matter of days it seemed because by that point it was like the trees realized what the date was and just dropped everything abruptly... I've got a feeling this year the color will be near peak viewing for the next couple weeks as it cycles through all the species.

You're supposed to go 4 different ways mowing..vertically one week,, horizontal the next, diagonal the next,, diagonal the other way the next..and then repeat..it's great for the grass. moneypitmike
I was at my daughter's school's back-to-school night. They had a "when I grow up" area where they kids said what they were going to do. My favorite was the kid who said "when I grow up i want to be a land skaper so I can mow lawns and do outdoor stuff". Anybody see this video? Pretty neat. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/russian-dash-cam-captures-lightning-striking-suv-roof-234752478.html
