snowman21
It snowed 2 days prior to the October snowstorm last year. Yep, I mentioned that last night I think. We had flakes right down to the shore. Of course Sultan is completely distorting my statistics, but whatever, everyone else seemed to understand what we were talking about. ORH_wxman
Flurries here in October are almost 50/50...so it is indeed pretty "meh"....but measurable would be fairly exciting since that happens about 1 out of 5 years here...and certainly fow the valleys and CP, its quite a bit rarer. Though I would say any flakes before Oct 15 is very rare. Most of the October snow (trace or measurable) happens in the 2nd half of the month for obvious reasons. Yeah flakes are meh and they are probably more frequent than statistics show since sometimes you have flurries that occur that don't even get recorded as a trace. But yeah as you meantioned measurable is much more interesting... happening very rarely below 500 feet.
Damage In Tolland
Man today really torched. There was no cool push behind that front. Wonder if that means w/f gets farther north than we thought it would

Yeah I'm sure there's been some traces that never got recorded...so the odds might be slightly more than the numbers say. Measurable is always more interesting. Its nice seeing the first flurries of the year, but the novelty wears off after about 10 minutes, lol....even for someone like me who loves snow. Its way more exciting seeing the first snow that covers the landscape versus a few stray flakes at 36F.

HoarfrostHubb
October snows, while cool, are fleeting. I don't think I saw any in 2010 (have to check). But 2009 I had 2 accumulating snowfalls in Oct and 2011...well... 2009

trapperman
Any op model at hr 240 is bong worthy. I don't care what model it is. The ensembles don't have as crazy of a cold push. It may be because ensembles tend to smooth out extremes, but it does have the cold idea and is pretty chilly looking overall. Edit: the EC ensembles aren't too far off from the op. i saw the "s" word in a few AFDS out west this afternoon...
powderfreak
FYP lol, i love it. Speaking of which... it looks like we're going to be chilly tonight. BTV is banking on increasing clouds keeping temps up, but after a high of 57F its already down to 52F and we should be in the 40s before it gets dark. I love these fall mornings... here's this morning with some ground fog and alpenglow on the foothills of the Spine. The foliage is just loving this dry sunny weather and cool nights. Give me #2 and 3 I don't really care much about the Oct thing other than the pseudo novelty And again, my only contention is that for ORH, 7.0"+ of snow in October is a bad sign.... huge sample size ...ok, 2 times

CoastalWx
The high temps in the ORH hills/SW NH and points west are going to be quite the shock. Even at the coast..probably 50s, away from SE MA. They might get a quick bump in temps towards evening before falling again.
