Ginx snewx
Amazing that Sept will end up below average for most of us after the huge torch to start the month. Niño schmino, you can feel, taste, smell the difference this year, stock up the wood. Typical early Oct warmth then the slide into cold starts. Think normal progression. ChrisM
You guys need to understand the topography of that area...there are 500' valleys flanked by 1100' hills. Totally plausible IMO. It might be too low, but I bet they at least got down near 30.

ChrisM
Looks like Maple Hollow is in a large, completely flat spot at 560 or so feet at the base of a 1050' hill on one side and a 1100' hill on the other. Also has a 700' hill on the other side and a 1000' hill to the north. Completely enclosed flat-at-the-bottom bowl. I've been through that area before and I can TOTALLY believe that reading. Oh how I remember you and many others canceling winter in 2010 Oct. Torch! then ..... 2009 was brutally cold, winter was meh,and on and on. I do not even know why anyone cares about Oct. other than precip patterns.

CapturedNature
Got a photo of an icy windshield in Sprague, CT. Viewer said 33 degrees, but I'm a bit skeptical. I can't speak about Spague specifically, but in the northern part of the state I was 36° on a hill side and there was definately frost 200' below me as I drove to work. West Stafford was probably the coldest with frost covering everything so I'd say that 32° or 33° was possible there given what I saw. It didn't have that scattered look to it. CT Rain
who is that guy? 28 degrees I dont think so And there's only one coop observer in New Hartford and he reported 35. Not sure what this guy's deal is.

I said I'd believe 30 or 31. Maybe not 28 but even school in a bad radiating spot got down to 35. Maple Hollow appears to me to be a better radiating spot than Bakersville anyway. It's also on a different side of a huge ridge but what do I know?

ORH_wxman
There's very little chance that 28F reading is legit. We have some reliable data from other sites that are in great radiating spots and nobody got that close. The coldest spots were likely near 32F.
