ORH_wxman
Wow... ORH down to +1.0F on the month before today Today will be the 7th negative day in the last 10, and one of those was a +0 Nice mild down... Yeah, I thought about 10 days ago we would end up way closer than thought at the beginning of the month. I think PVD is pretty much locked for negative, and BOS has a great chance. ORH isn't a lock yet for positive either...we'll see how the end of the week shapes up with that potential storm...if we end up with a raw nor' easter, they could finish negative. ORH_wxman
That would be an impressive accomplishment if they went negative. Yeah it would considering they were like +3.5 two weeks in, lol. If that storm can get cranking a bit up underneath LI, that would really make it cold, esp in the interior with that high off to the northeast...big CAD setup. That's the type of day where they could put up like a 51/47. But we'll have to wait and see how that whole complex H5 setup evolves.

CapturedNature
Temps are ticking down nicely this evening. Temps around me are running about 3° below where they were last evening and I got down to 38°. No frost though - maybe tomorrow morning?

CT Rain
It took a degree in Met and a course in dual pol for Ryan to find out birds flock to the Ct Shore in the morning? And it was all afternoon. The folks at the NWS were also wondering what it was because it was a fairly unusual set of returns.

ORH_wxman
Or their first fall with dual pol? Well it was easily visible on base reflectivity. The dual pol just tells you its probably not rain.

ORH_wxman
Temps are dropping like a rock right now most places. I wonder how long it will be until we see the winds try and stir up a bit with the WAA.

CT Rain
I remember when the pig pile on the guy who explained bird returns on radar happened here. They happen all the time on radar. It wasn't really a dual pol thing. The echoes today were unusually persistent and large all afternoon for some reason. Not sure why they were today as opposed to other days. I felt tonight could be the night for radiational cooling, but yeah WAA may try to stir the gradient just a bit.

It's pretty cool looping the first few hours of this NAM temperature plot and seeing the WAA-induced overnight temperature jump over the OV http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~gadomski/NAMSFC4_18z/tloop.html

Another great sign we have just obliterated summer here. Another great spot is Napatree point, for some reason its a checkpoint for migrating hawks, falcons of all kinds. One thing I have not seen since my youth, hundreds of thousands of black birds, the sky would get black in sections, the electric lines were just loaded with them.you see them now but the numbers are not what they used to be. Met1985
You live at 3500ft? Yep on top of a mountain In Haywood County NC. Beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery here in the Smokey's. The leaves are starting to change and I would think after this cold snap that will really get the colors flying through the mountains.
ChrisM
It's about to get into the 30s at the school station for the first time this fall AFAIK. 40.6 atm. Same exact temp at 1k at home. Have to imagine some of the higher valleys around there will frost tonight. Also WTF just happened in that seahawks/green bay game? Disaster.
