Sugarloaf1989
It's funny how we had higher wind gusts in the afternoon here with a wind advisory than after the posting of a high wind warning.

weatherwiz
It really shouldn't be all that surprising though the winds weren't much more spectacular with the line...99.9% of the time you're highest winds are going to be occurring right out ahead of the line. Unless you're dealing with a situation where the BL is quite unstable you're not going to get major winds from the line itself.
weatherwiz
MattNoyesNECN (Matt Noyes) Nasty looking echo is trying to hook just north of Storrs CT. This storm is borderline for tornado criteria. Update on-air at 11pm @NECN

CT Rain
No idea as usual. There was a brief period where there was a low level meso there but I didn't see a giant hook echo. It looked like a bow with an embedded area of rotation.

radarman
I looked for a hook too. Maybe he meant the low level stuff. Yeah. Actually BOX shows a bounded weak echo... and it could be argued that there is some embedded cell just to the north, but to call that a hook echo is a stretch I'd say. CT Rain
I looked for a hook too. Maybe he meant the low level stuff. No hook just a rotating comma head on a bow. Thank God Kevin is sleeping or else he'd be calling this a landphoon. Anything that spins now on radar is a landphoon.

HM
We've had better high shear / low CAPE events than this one but I was okay with what happened. Unlike the more common experience, I saw nice storm structure and experienced some nice wind gusts. The preliminary shot this afternoon just couldn't get it together and probably hurt us more than anything. Despite the occasional break of sun in S-C NJ, the updraft acceleration wasn't enough or properly balanced with the storm relative wind. I agree with what Ian has been saying as far as the SPC upgrade. We both aren't sure what changed between the 13z and 1630z outlook other than convective development was occurring. However, they noted several times that there were instability issues with the rain ahead of the convection. Oh well...onto Saturday....
ChrisM
absolutely blew my forecast for Mt. Washington...they've only gusted to 82.3 so far. I had them gusting to 110. Maybe there's still some time to at least touch 100.
