bluewave
Blocking has returned very strongly to our side of the pole after the long absence last fall and winter. After the remarkable record warmth last March that shattered so many records, a persistent blocking pattern emerged. During August, a trough finally developed to our west giving those areas a break from the record heat that they had been experiencing. The latest ensemble forecasts bring this pattern back in the 6-10 day forecast. October patterns over the last decade have given us a good hint at where the winter blocking pattern would set up, so we'll have to wait and see. NEG NAO
the AO has been positive since Sept. 1st...I hope it stays positive until November...Until then it's sit and wait...last October was the highlight of the winter...Hopefully it's February this year... Hopefully not just February - Important to get off to a fast start in December or even November - If this blocking persists an early start to winter is very possible
