September banter/boredom thread

Well the inversion was above you....the fog was probably typical valley fog I guess. You probably just slowly cooler enough given the cool temps yesterday aftn.

Yes that's what I just wrote...if he went up another 300-500ft I bet the temp would've gone way up.

Like Dendrite said, I see it often too where the coldest temps are just above the fog level but still experiencing calm winds. In this area that elevation is usually 900-1200ft or so. That's also why in the NNE thread, the other day Lyndon State was just above the fog and 31F, and Borderwx also just above the fog was 27F. Both of those spots were 1000-1200ft elevation.

Yeah there was zero wind..and what was really atypical for me..is as I ran down in elevation around 650 feet it was noticeably warmer..That happens during the day everyday..but not at night/earl;y morning on radiating nights

Yeah the inversion was above you, and you have a lower dewpoint at elevation so the valley saw the typical fog but you were able to cool further without "fogging out."

Once the valley fogged up, they had trouble dropping lower, while you continued to cool and likely drain drier/colder air down from aloft.

Dendrite gave a good reason why. Meanwhile, temp inversion with warm ESE winds over this dome of cooler air is screwing us here in ern areas. Definitely did not expect it to be so widespread yesterday.

LOL..it def was the first time that has happened here since i moved in 2005. And probably the last

I'm sure there have been other cases. Fall is probably the most frequent time this happens for you since we still have a relatively warm ground, vegetation, and longer nights...so the valley fogs up easily on clear/calm nights and that fog top climbs up the hillside via radiative cooling processes.

Marquette MI FTW. Sleet is wrong in this forecast, but maybe they said the hell with it because nobody knows what graupel is.

REST OF TODAY...NUMEROUS RAIN SHOWERS...POSSIBLY MIXED WITH

SLEET AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH NOON...THEN NUMEROUS RAIN

SHOWERS...POSSIBLY MIXED WITH SLEET IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGHS 46 TO

51. NORTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 20 MPH. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION

70 PERCENT.

.TONIGHT...SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS AND SLEET IN THE EVENING...THEN

A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SLEET AND RAIN SHOWERS OVERNIGHT. CLOUDY. LOWS

AROUND 37 INLAND TO AROUND 43 AT THE SHORE. NORTHWEST WINDS 5 TO

15 MPH...EXCEPT NORTHWEST 15 TO 25 MPH NEAR THE SHORE. CHANCE OF

PRECIPITATION 50 PERCENT.

Anyone know what type of tree this is? It's already nearing peak color. I've noticed the past few years it usually drops all its leaves by October 15th at the latest (last year) and I've seen it bare as early as the first week of Oct. With it already at peak, it'll probably be bare by the end of September.

Some signs near October 2...give or take, there could be a good storm on the east coast. We are far out in la la land obviously, but the pattern possibly shuffles to allow some energy coming out of Canada to interact with a low developing off the East Coast. Some models offer this in some shape or form. Thought it looked "interesting" anyways.
