Exactly. Who cares. I think what we do want, is a cooler than normal October. That has a decent correlation as Will has said before.

I use the years when it turned in mid October ala 2002 as the holy grail. When else? Actually I recall 1997 was chilly October through December but the Nino was so out of control by mid winter that all bets were off. Had it been garden variety strong I am convinced that would have been a great winter.

Of course, it doesn't always work. October 2007 was a torch, and October 2010 was warm.

Are you just using ninos? 68-69?

I remember that now. That was after the 11/23 SWFE. I still had 3" OTG on the morning of the 27th and I'm at 614ft. There was practically no wind from 11/25-11/27 here and with the low sun angle and snowpack the lower elevations just couldn't mix out. My daily peak gusts those 3 days were 8mph, 5mph, 5mph. BTV torched with a gusty S wind on the 27th and got up to 58F. The high here that day was only 43.8F and most of the day was spent in the 30s.

Yeah that Thanksgiving Day storm...we ended up with 8" in town and 9-10" on the mountain. Then in the following days there was this pretty crazy inversion... windy and warm on the mountain while definitely averaging colder in the valley bottom.

Check out these temp differences based on the records on MVL's F-6 (730ft) and the Wunderground station at the ski area base at 1,600ft (http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KVTSTOWE3)....

Date....730ft...1,600ft high/low

11/25...37/26.....54/32

11/26...50/28.....53/41

11/27...48/26......50/38

Not sure but they seem to have averaged consistently lower than all ASOS stations this summer in New England in respect to the percentage that they were above normal.

Their temps were consistent with lots of srly flow. If BOS wasn't such a heat island they would be right there for September. High pressure nearby has kept them flirting with seabreezes and capping off highs in both places.

Whether they suck or not, without them there's no season. Ironically these commentators who are whining the most would be looking for other jobs right now if it weren't for them. They should be grateful there's a season at all, not crying like babies about every call.

Yeah, but the point is that they are too cheap to keep the old ones...so they risk having blown calls and possibly injuries thanks to the replacement refs. I agree they are doing the best they can...but there has been awful calls all around the league. Like anything in life, they will also learn through experience so that's the hope.

Yeah but it still all comes down to beggars can't be choosers. No replacements, no football. Which would you rather have?

Obviously football, but I think the complaints are warranted and more of a statement to the NFL to get their act together and stop worrying about negotiations. The refs are a problem.

Wow, copper head bit a hiker on Mt Tom.

Not sure this guy didn't try to pick the snake up...

yeah just saw that on the news that sucks and they are putting more up there give me a break

more what?

We have rattlesnakes nearby here at Blue Hills for whatever reason. There is literally a handful of them, but they were found on the eastern part of the chain in Quincy 2 years ago.

There are actually three places in Ma. that Rattle Snakes are known to exist Blue Hills, Mt Tom area of the Holyoke Range (odd story, have not seen any photos and they said the snake was killed. Wondering if it was actually a Rattler and they don't want people to panic?) and in the Southern Berkshires (Beartown SF area) My info is from a friend who is a state wildlife biologist so I'm pretty confident that it is accurate.

Well I agree but I think the refs themselves are being scrutinized too hard. Theyre doing what they can like i said...its like jays towson tigers against the pats lol.

I think we both agree there though.
