Did you see the MADIS error analysis graph I posted the other day? It appears there was a step change sometime in February.

No, did you post that in response to my other post about AFN?

I must have totally missed it. But its good to see that it supports a step change in their temps.

Already 63 under mostly sunny skies, off to church then some school fairs........with sun and mid 70s how could we not enjoy ourselves today?

Make today the very best day you have ever had!

Bdr has only been in the 80's 4 times this month...many were saying low 80's this week....yesterday -2 at bdr...u had a below avg week.

.as we thought..you never reach that 77 yesterday

Last night ur low of 53 was -6...enjoy the early fall feel

I was looking at webcams from ski country and it looked about 95% green to me, I agree the reports se of you of color ahead of last year is surprising.

Its turning now... what I find is that on these sunny days you can't really see the color as well or really tell just how extensive it is. The colors are muted a bit and the bright sunshine sort of white-washes everything. I noticed it a lot more yesterday with the upslope cloud cover and dreary sky, and today it looked a lot less with full sunshine.

The problem with foliage is that its such a subjective observation that its hard to really compare from one spot to another. West Chesterfield says that leaf drop is occurring when those first stressed trees with roots growing under the pavement next to the road start dropping shriveled leaves in late August. Others wont say that leaf drop is occurring until at least 50 percent of the trees are shedding leaves. Same with "the leaves are changing" statements...its really hard to tell if its like 10% or 60% of trees that are showing color...and is it full trees in color or like certain isolated parts of a tree that are red while the bulk of the tree is still green?

Next time we get a cloudy day or the light seems right I'll go for a drive around here and take some foliage pictures. But in midday sunlight its really hard to tell the extent of the color. The colors are much more saturated in low light.

Tonight is shaping up to the be the coldest night of the season so far, with temps already in the 50s and dew points in the mid 30s under clear skies.

Hit 36F last night and dews this afternoon were down around 34F for a few hours at max heating time, so hopefully we can get to 34-35F or so.

But man those spots like Diamond Pond and Pittsburg in far northern NH, struggling to get beyond 50 degrees today, really don't have far to drop tonight. Last night they dipped into the mid 30s like a lot of spots, but they should be able to get to freezing tonight.

56F here now and dropping quickly as the sun goes down.

I totally agree...it can be a very subjective thing.

Web cams tend to flatten colors and you can't really tell anything at this stage. The only trees that I see here with mostly color are ones with wet feet in bogs. Everything else is a branch or two that has changed. That doesn't mean that some of the trees that are green aren't looking paler as the chloroform starts to leave the leaves.

That being said, we are only 30 days from being peak (Columbus Day weekend is usually our peak) so it's not unusual to have something going on this time of year.
