Saw some pockets of peak color (mostly maples) on a day trip to Johnstown Saturday along turnpike where it goes over 2K feet crossing the mountains.

Johnstown itself has low-moderate color. At home, other than the occasional maple, trees are showing certainly 'less' green with some

yellow showing.

I don't know if it's just me, but, while there is nothing near peak color yet, it just seems that things are about a week or two early this year. At least up my way.

Yeah, things appear to be progressing a bit faster compared to the past few years. Maybe we end up 7-10 days ahead of the past 2 years? Climatologically I doubt things could really peak any sooner than mid-October across most of eastern PA and NJ (expect for the higher elevations).

Here were the past 2 years (peaks) based on that foliage network website:

Lots of fall colors already between Tamaqua and Pottsville. I took these today (09/27/12), and still think we are one to two weeks ahead of schedule.

Wow! Impressive. Looks like my trip planned for the first weekend in October for NE PA could yield good results :)

I'll probably pass through the Rt 209 - Jim Thorpe area on my way to the Poconos.

Andy,

Thank-you! Hopefully with the colors changing sooner, maybe they will linger longer. The last couple of falls it felt like we went from color to bare trees within about a week or two.

a historic snowfall last year helped to lol. I know we lost trees and a tons of branches on the golf course.

wife put in for extended weekend either this weekend or next....kinda hoping its next weekend, had no idea its Columbus Day weekend and it seems like every lodging facility in Lancaster county is already booked.

Probably better color too next weekend out in Lancaster too. I noticed rates at alot of places to stay come down after Columbus Day as well.

Progress (although the dull skies this week make the color a little less noticeable).

Best news is from spotter reports up north: Many spotters are reporting fantastic color, which is a welcome change from the disappointing foliage of last year. (foliagenetwork.com)
