With this fall-like feel in the air I"m already plotting out my Skyline Drive day trip of the year.

Maybe we can go same day? Weekdays (mon-tues) are the best and I have some free time. We can hike stoney man. Did you do that last year? Bang for the buck, there is no better scenic hike with great views and short distance on skyline. If someone knows a better one let me know.

Not sure about the distance to Stoney Man, but Hawksbill is less than a mile - although somewhat steep in places, and can be summitted in about a half-hour. Highest peak in the park and offers incredible views of the valley and Apps to the west. Large rock outcrops at the top allow for some good sittin' while admiring the scenery. Gives a great view of old Rag to the NE. At one time there was a roosting project with Falcons up there, and often you could see them in-flght. Not sure if that project is still on-going.

On my trip last year I did Hawksbill in about an hourish. Very nice view from the top! Haven't done Stoney Man yet.

The fire road is quite steep and sometimes the little rocks that make up the surface slip a little - but careful steps can definitely get you there in like 45 minutes.
