Why don't they just use CNG in GC? It's cheap, plentiful, and clean (as fossil fuels go).

Then what would we do with all the trees we cut down?

I plant trees. LOL Every year maybe 6 or 8 more to try to get some kind of wind break going in these fields. The first batch are about seven feet high now.

We plant a few each year, too. Especially fruit trees. My wife is looking to put in a couple of pines.

Cutting/splitting/stacking is great upper body exercise. I'm not sure how much an 18" section of maple that measures anywhere from 10-24" across weighs. But, rolling/lifting them to the splitter is a great workout. Meanwhile, the time being spent outdoors on my own (albeit with headphones to block the chainsaw/splitter noise) is very therapeutic.

FWIW .... pure northern boreal forest in those highlands 50-100 miles north of Quebec City. All those straight pointed spruce trees, interspersed with lakes.

I did see a fair amount of yellowing of leaves in the birch and poplars in Quebec and far northern NH. When you get into the areas dominated more by maples it is only a little hint here and there.

They're actually increasing their annual temperatures, and reducing days of snowpack

LOL--I'm ensuring my sensors are not influenced by shade. Still need to figure out how to get my anemometer up to legitimate height though.

I found MPM's barn on Google Earth. Just look for the dead grass due to lack of shading.

Ironically, most of my lawn areas have much more shade than sun. In fact, in some areas I use "dense shade mix" for my seeding Obviously, the pastures are full sun....but of course our lower temps keep those from burning out. :)

There's such a thing as too much lawn and fields though. :) Take it from a person who mows 4 acres of lawn here and 1.5 acres down in HV at the rental cottage. I'll be very glad when these trees grow enough to render that area a "woods".

Never mind the 25 acres of fields I bush hog, but it's pretty and probably increases the value of the land to have open fields. That job starts soon. ughh

Oh so true. I was not excited about that aspect of the clearing I did this spring. But, my desire to bring the ancient farmer's walls so long hidden in the woods won out.

Oh BTW...

I was in the Happy Cafe ...about 10 miles below the border in northern NH yesterday and a guy who looks like 1970's Hell's Angel (now in his 60's) came in with the pistol in his holster. I guess that is the true GC of NH. LOL It is the "live free or die" state.

Dude, it's like the wild west up that way.

It's an interesting border crossing. Complete deserted forest/lakes etc. in "live free or die" northern NH. If heading north you immediately descend about a one mile long hill and you are in farmland and total civilization in "je me souviens" QC.

NRN NH is also a good upslope spot. Some of those lakes there have ice right through May...lol. Very cold and desolate spot, but beautiful.
