Hurricane Isaac Storm Reports

Recommended Posts

Gulfport is the neighboring town to Long Beach where the videos I posted and my family is. City line is about 3 miles east from where the videos were taken. Harrison county is under a tornado warning currently. There is flooding on roadways and probably getting into homes in the county as well. There is a countywide curfew in effect currently. They've been getting bad wind and rain all day.

According to topo maps and Google aerial photos & Streetview, Eden Isles are traditional homes (no stilts, many single story) waterfront at less than 10' in elevation with no levee protection. Guaranteed to flood repeatedly. Similarly sited new subdivision on the east side of I-10. How was the new subdivision allowed to be built in such an irresponsible place and manner? Was there a mandatory evacuation order here?

I was looking at Google Earth and was about to make the exact same post, basically.

An utterly insane subdivision to exist in that location.

I am in Biloxi mother-in-law in Gulfport just N of the tracks behind the Naval Home were everyone saw Jim Cantore during Katrina everything is fine and wet.Winds have been all day maybe 20-25 steady most of the time have seen alot of 40-50 gust earlier not so much now.The thing now is rain and alot of it.I went on here http://water.weather.gov/precip/ and it shows a couple of inches of rain  .Anybody got something believable?

Cantore and TWC breathless announcing as Breaking News that Plaquemines Parish has ordered the mandatory evacuation of the west bank (west of the Mississippi River, south of Belle Chase) of approx. 3000 people.

Except that was ordered more than 8 hours ago. And I'm pretty sure I heard a few hours ago the parish announced the evacuation was successfully completed.

still an easterly componenet to the wind for 2+ days flowing into Lake Pontchartrain ...so the 'potential' for a new orleans style katrina should still be there, no ?

levels at new canal station continue to slowly rise. http://tidesonline.n...nal Station, LA

I don't see any way for the lake to really drastically rise above its current level .

Also there hasn't been a single problem with any of the Federal Levees protecting New Orleans proper, on which billions have been spent for repairs, improvements, and new barriers. Every area that has flooded has been a suburb outside that system.

It's incredible we're still at peak levels, and also crazy that New Orleans is still being hammered by spiral bands. I thought Frances of 2004 was a long storm in Florida, but this definitely beats that.

I am aware of all these facts, I am not confused at the difference between Mississippi levees and Gulf levees nor about what happened. The corps guy said that water levels were dropping in Plaquemines during the eye of the storm and wouldn't increase, so there was nothing to worry about, which is not something you tell people before a 12 ft wall of water crashes through their town. Waters in both the river and the ocean increased for hours after he said that. He should be discharged or scrub toilets for the next few years since he may have killed people, and if he didn't he's lucky.

You might want to consider taking a break from here. :/

20" in Audobon park, New Orleans per TWC. Radar estimates a maximum of 10-16" in a band going through New Orleans, which just goes to show that radar estimates can be quite off. Probably some 2' amounts down in northern Plaquemines, but I wonder if any rain gauges didn't get hit by the storm surge.

If parts of NO really did get 15-20" rain, can anybody tell me why it isn't flooded out?

The city floods in a typical heavy summer storm and those late June store were much worse flooding-wise for many areas around NO proper. It's like Houston; if this had hit Houston we are talking catastrophic flood damage with those amounts.

The Damn at Tangipahao Lake is failing. The Parrish President called for a mandatory evacuation from Kentwood, LA to Robert, LA. WWLTV is reporting 50-60K people need to mover east or west away from the Tangipahao River.

This says the dam is in "extreme danger" of failing. But as of now, it has not yet failed.
