dan11295
Interesting stat I looked, up, if Isaac's name gets retired. It will have the 2nd lowest sustained winds at landfall (After Allison) for any storm retired due to impact on the U.S. Given the latest insured damage estimate of up to $2 Billion, excluding flooding, decent chance it gets retired. Also interesting to read Jeff Masters latest blog post for a few tidbit of info: Last 3 hurricanes to impact the U.S. were all "I" storm, Issac, Irene, All three also had large wind fields with atypical pressure-wind relationships at landfall. Isaac (70 kt, 968 mb) Ike (95 kt 950 mb) Irene (75 kt 952 mb at NC Landfall). While Irene weakening at the time while heading toward mid lattitudes, both of which can skew the presure.wind relationship. Ike and Isaac were both slightly strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico. CoastalWx
Whether it was to drive up the gas market, get his name in the news (likely), or fear mongering...what an epic fail. http://www.forbes.com/sites/weatherbell/2012/08/26/tropical-storm-isaac-should-rival-hurricane-katrina/

I think we are seeing what happens if a hard core weenie gets a met degree and an outlet.
turtlehurricane
Isaac is a sad remnant of its former self but the hype continues... this dam is nowhere close to New Orleans. The title should say Louisiana to prevent rumors and false panic. FU CNN.

FU CNN. it's 40 miles away and part of the New Orleans MSA...in a national context that is "near." lol
