The axis of heavy rain this month has basically been from Southern Illinois through IND and then northeastward to CLE. I'm sure IND is in a similar situation in terms of wettest Septembers on record.

Wettest Septembers in Cleveland:

1. 11.05 1996

2. 9.30 1878

3. 9.10 1926

4. 8.30 2011

x. 7.48 2012

5. 7.38 1901

6. 7.33 1990

7. 6.75 1981

8. 6.41 1986

9. 6.37 1945

10. 6.17 1938

This could tick up a bit over the weekend, but 5th place is likely to hold. Also comes on the heels of very wet fall last year.

need rain bad...good bet its a dry fall and winter...crisis on our hands up here.. water levels at record lows all across the state.

mmm. lots of 70's and mke mentions toasty temps could make an appearance next week..best time of the yr for them. problem is they prob continue all fall and winter with this pos attempt of a nino. better have latitude on your side for at at least the 1st half of winter.

Amazing that in this warm year we had 3 months at or below normal so far out of 9. April, August and September.

The chances at a record year have to be out the window now.

Jon

Not exactly. I have data back to 1870 for Detroit, and this is the warmest year on record (January through September) on record by nearly a full degree. I estimated September to finish at 64.0F at DTW. Data for all months is from the NWS DTX Climate Page: http://www.crh.noaa....p?n=decadetable. It was also the warmest on January to August period on record at Flint (beginning in 1893) and Saginaw (beginning in 1900), but I haven't updated through September for those locations yet.

September will drop both of those locations below first.... October looks below ad well... That's why its a 1 year period and not 8 months.

Edit: Wouldn't the colder upcoming months drop that down by aggregation.

This includes September. I used the monthly mean temperature through today, along with the NWS forecast high and low for tomorrow and Sunday. The estimate for September won't be more than about +/- 0.2F off, and the effect on the year-to-date would be minimal if any.

This data is for January through September only (meaning it's the warmest first 9 months of each year). So the colder months would not affect this analysis. The numbers come from the NWS DTX website. I exported them into an Excel file, so I could easily create graphs for specific months and multiple month periods.

Gotcha.... The last two months probably tempered down a way above average year.... Next month will drop it below first in both location, but this year will obviously be above normal. It just will be less then record breaking.

March really did some damage.

Better hope we don't get a torchy Nov or Dec. 50s in Dec can do some serious damage as well. March screwed this entire year. Almost comical.

Here is March 3rd in Gaylord Michigan... 2 weeks later it was 82 degrees.

Crazy month that was. How long did it take those snow piles to melt?

Just between the 5th and 6th here, it went from 31°/12° to 65°/29°. +13.4° for the month.

Edit: Back to this month. Looking at probably lower 40s tonight. Down to 46° now.

Gonna be a perfect morning on the piers. a nice warm low 50's from mke to ugn and a westerly wind to add to the perfection.. The stage is set for a beautiful weekend for the Burnout Bash fishing tournament.

Good luck! I'm going to hit the local reservoir. The slab crappies should be coming shallow and turning on with the cooling water temps.

Starting out in the mid 40's and almost calm here. It's gonna be a cool start, but WAA should bump it up nicely into the lower 70's.
