...CENTER OF ISAAC MAKES SECOND LANDFALL...

REPORTS FROM AN AIR FORCE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT AND NOAA RADAR

INDICATE THAT ISAAC MADE A SECOND LANDFALL ALONG THE COAST OF

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA JUST WEST OF PORT FOURCHON AROUND 215 AM

CDT...0715 UTC...WITH MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS OF 80 MPH...130 KM/H.

AT 300 AM CDT...0800 UTC...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE ISAAC WAS

ESTIMATED NEAR LATITUDE 29.2 NORTH...LONGITUDE 90.4 WEST...OR ABOUT

35 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF HOUMA LOUISIANA...AND ABOUT 60 MILES

SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF NEW ORLEANS LOUISIANA. ISAAC HAS BEGUN TO MOVE

WEST-NORTHWESTWARD NEAR 8 MPH...13 KM/H...AND A GENERAL

NORTHWESTWARD MOTION AT A SLOWER FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED LATER

TODAY.

A SUSTAINED WIND OF 49 MPH WITH A GUST TO 78 MPH WAS RECENTLY

REPORTED AT BOOTHVILLE.

During the eye, a nurse from the hospital-- a dude-- came up to my car and insisted I come inside. I mean, he insisted, despite my protests (as I didn't want to impose). It's very hospitable of him, and the staff is very nice-- they're all quite chatty.

I'm on the N side of the building-- the emergency reception-- which got pounded before. The staff struggled to put the metal cyclone shutters up during the height of the storm, and only managed to get them completely on during the lull. The entire entrance is now sealed except a small utility door, and as I sit inside, I'm hearing the shutters starting to clank again. If the wind comes from the S after the eye, it will be easy to go in and out this door, since I'd be on the downwind side.

Of course I'll make a small donation to the hospital-- some small appreciation for their hospitality.

Sweet! Last reporting ob (and lowest) from the airport at 970.1 came in around 4:15.

Hey, Scott-- or anyone else-- do you know offhand the highest 1-min wind and gust at KGAO? Curious, because it would most likely reflect what I experienced. I believe the sustained wind was maybe around 50 kt, but for a prolonged period?
