OKpowdah
Great shots! That's where I went ice climbing the last weekend there. Beautiful. Your fourth one down is my favorite
baroclinic_instability
Did ya go walk on it? That's the coolest part! I didn't go too far, I didn't have proper gear to head out very far. Next time I am either going with experienced ice climbers or a guide.
baroclinic_instability
Great shots! That's where I went ice climbing the last weekend there. Beautiful. Your fourth one down is my favorite It was pretty awesome. The weather sucked, and actually those shots were in between two substantial rain events...I was lucky and had a 3-4 hour window. Heading back, the rain was so heavy you couldn't see Pioneer Peak near Palmer from the Knik River crossing on the highway. How is OK?

The beer isn't nearly as good in OK. We've gotten a couple good thunderstorms with awesome lightning displays. Otherwise it's just very hot and dry. Many dead trees around the area, and I saw a few large fire aftermaths. Otherwise, I'm working with Dr. Parsons and Bluestein on nocturnal convection and how it feeds back into the larger scale. There's a lot of interest at the ECMWF, so we're working with them on how that feeds back into the model forecast

It is pretty fascinating to see how moist convection can both alter short term/longer term weather patterns...and also the numerical guidance. Definitely huge errors associated with that. Sounds like some fascinating research.
