E PA/NJ/DE/NE MD: Banter/Non Storm OBS thread

Well I've started to get my dad into it so maybe I can talk him up a little lol how much more with out the fancy mounts?

Well its all just lumber from Home Depot so whatever it comes out to. The main additional expenses for the Elko one were the flagpole to mount the wind sensor on... and for the home one was both the additional support on the top of the telephone pole, and the standard rain gauge. If you're a beginner then you might not want to get that into it, but I think the flagpole ran close to $300 and the telephone pole mount + SRG ran close to $500 (most of that was the SRG).

My new weather station I just picked up yesterday (8/30/12). Certainly not the best that money can buy, but then again, my budget just doesn't allow for a $300+ drop right now. It's still way better than what I was using. Time will tell just how accurate everything is, but so far, temps and humidity seem pretty close.

Third day with the station, and I have to say, for a low end unit, the temps are spot on with both Allentown and Reading as well as the majority of the PWS's in the area., not to mention that it's also spot on with my other sensor that I have in a shady, protected location. so the solar powered fan in the temperature sensor seems to work properly. We haven't had enough wind to gauge whether the anomometer is working as it should, and of course no rainfall yet. When we get some, I'm going to compare it against my old manual rain collector to see how accurate it is.

For the money ($100.00) it doesn't seem to be a bad deal for those of us on a limited budget.

My anenometer is on top of the roof. Did that to save money and keep accuracy.

For the Elko one, since I'm in apartment I figured it would be easier to just mount it separately rather than try permission to get it up on the roof ;)

For the Jersey one, I didn't want to attract unnecessary lightning and I didn't want to deal with having to ground it.

Just saw my Davis VP was showing a 78 DP @ 79.9 degrees, hence a humidity of 90%. Took a look at the reading @ PTW which is the

closest station and their humidity is 83%. So I applied an offset to the humidity to bring it back to 83% and the DP is now sitting @ 75.

Does this seem consistent with anyone else? I'm at 79.9, 83% hum and DP 75. 75 DP is still kind of rare, but this is a very tropical air mass.

I'd hate to have to deal with a sling psych (which I don't have) or wait for a cool dense fog or bring the sensor into the bathroom...

Yes the one I have in Ewing at my parents' shows similarly high dewpoint readings. For example, today it briefly peaked at 79 shortly after TTN read 75. Right now they're reading a bit closer. The excess value could have to do with the pool my parents' have nearby, I'm not sure.

In comparison, and granted the RH is very rarely above 80% here during the warm season even when its raining, the one I have here in Elko usually is spot on with the EKO ASOS.

Well, I gave it a -8% offset which seems like a lot. I think it's a +/- 4% accuracy in the specs. Anyhow I'm tracking pretty well

with PTW. Right now I'm at 78/74, yielding 86% humidity. PTW is at 82/74 with 77% humidity, although they are reporting Lt rain.
