heavy_wx
IMO Fulton is gonna be the bullseye for this event. Yeah I think the highest totals will be somewhere south of Oswego and north of Fair Haven. I'm not sure if anyone will see more than 6 inches though, with dendritic snow growth not being ideal and the band moving around.

scottmartin49
George and Rebecca; thanks for responding to my post(!) When we're claiming teleconnection status as pattern causation, aren't we mistaking cause for effect? Aren't varying climatic energy levels and their resultant physical effects the creator of those very teleconnections? NAO, AO, PDO, etc. are merely observed means by which energy is 're-sorted', no? "Cold", as we measure its increase at the poles, is a negative reaction- an absence of input energy- that is highly responsive to latent heat retained by open water and relatively warm, open ground. -PDO, neutral ENSO and -AO should (under 'old normal' circumstances) mean colder conditions than we're seeing if I'm not mistaken. All that cold and snow in Barrow should have been shooting down the plains by this time of year, but instead, it still has work to do there and we get a predominantly zonal flow. Obviously, I'm extrapolating from a small sample, but an easterly flow here from a cool lake under a traditional temperature regime would mean a lot more flakes (and of better 'quality') than we're really getting. These can barely make it over the hill... I apologize if my statements sound questioning- I have no professional axes to grind or background dogmatics- but am frustrated by increasingly poor forecasting (Particularly from the CPC), contradictory models, and what seems like little willingness among professionals to acknowledge their lack of effective tools to describe what appears anecdotally to be a new or, even, 'evolving' norm. Stopped here now, maybe 3" since 2pm, already shrunk down to 2. Little, wet, 'New England-y' flakes. Blehh. 'night all!

Alpha5
Pretty impressive temperature gradient going on right now, as the core of the cold from the vortex shifts off to the east. Mid 20's here now, but impressive cold for many at this time of the year.
heavy_wx
We've been getting very light snow here for several hours. The cold temperatures in the upper 20s have allowed the snow to coat the roads, with maybe a few more tenths of an inch possible as the snow continues.
