Quakertown needs snow
Here: http://blog.africaweather.com/2012/08/snowfall-across-sa/ Heavy snowfall has been recorded in the Western Cape Mountains, the interior high ground of the Eastern Cape, Lesotho & Drakensburg. Light snowfall has been recorded in parts of the Central & Northern Freestate as well as in Southern Gauteng from Sandton to Vereeniging. phil882
Here: http://blog.africawe...fall-across-sa/ This is a pretty rare event... widespread -5 sigma anomalies at 500 hPa across the southern part of Africa. Not surprised they are seeing some of the white stuff.

wxmeddler
Rare but not unheard of... Most of Johannesburg sits above 5,200 ft with some places touching above 6,000. Planes from the US to Johannesburg can go non-stop but have to stop from Johannesburg to the US because they can't load the planes with full fuel because they would fail to take off (in the distance allotted) with that weight in the thin air. Experience: Been there, done that, scared me half to death when the A340-600 lifted off only 200 ft from the end of the 14,500ft runway after a full power, full length roll. QVectorman
This is from the Johannesburg zoo but I'm sure it was snowing on some wild lions out in Kruger. Never thought I would hear of wild lions seeing snow in Africa. LOL
