Maybe we agree with one another because we use meteorology to back up our claims. It's easy to disagree with someone who posts fantasy to just get a rise out of people.

I mean, we sometimes offer different opinions in the winter, but it's not like someone is going for 12" and another met is going for 3".

Except in October last year (re: TV mets 24 hours out), lol.

Feb 2010 also was really conservative out here on a lot of forecasts. But I think most of us who post on the board are usually not that far apart. When we differ, its usually by one notch...not several.

Yeah I mean more on this board. Those examples you brought up were probably some of the biggest examples of regional met differences that I can remember.

Arrogant?

I will say a widespread issue on this board is that only positive posts are encouraged. You post something about how a storm looks like crap on satellite and you don't think it will strengthen much....it's followed by 8 weenie posts about how it will strengthen. It's a weather board. There will always be as many negatives as there are positives.

It's sort of getting annoying. The system should have worked. The message was out and evacuations were ordered. Should people chauffeur you out of a storm surge zone next time?

If I'm on the coast and someone says there maybe a hurricane coming, I'm paying attention. Cat 1 or not, it's a hurricane. Anyone who pays attention should know that hurricanes can be dangerous, just as tropical storms can be dangerous. Perhaps the SS scale should be avoided when making public forecasts? Try this forecast...There's a hurricane coming, winds are expected to be 80mph (or whatever) with higher gusts. Storm surge could be deadly, particularly in low-lying coastal areas. We don't know the exact track of the worst conditions, but if you're in the bullseye, you're going to wish you had left. You may get lucky this time, but sooner or later one of these tropical systems is going to get you.

I'll counteract that with there's too much caution and pessimism . A huge Landphoon, or damaging tstorm could be moving in and there's posts such as ..those trees were rotten that came down..or..we see 58 mph winds all the time in the winter..or 4-8 inches of snow isn't a big deal and I'm not excited...things like that really turn folks stomachs

12z gfs shows a near miss for Maine and a strong left-side hit for Cape Breton, then on to the Newfies. Impressive storm, though, with pressure in the 950s (Cat 3?) at 50N.

Even deep storms with strong winds aloft have trouble mixing down those winds when the waters get too cool and the overlying airmass is stable.

Although water temps off NS aren't mondo-chilly...

I mentioned this in the main ATL thread in the other forum yesterday morning, didn't hear any comments. Possible home-brew next week? That U/L seems to hang around off the SE coast and I see a little sfc/mid reflection going on by 168hr on the Euro. Maybe something to watch?

wx is sooo boring right about now..
