wxsniss
They are going to get a good test on the improvements that were made to the infrastructure post Katrina with Isaac Does anyone know where we can find the exact flood stages for these levees? Here's a nice tracker of the water levels and tides at various points throughout NOLA: http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/quicklook/data/ISAAC.html#8762372wl
wxsniss
I posted this in main thread: Re: flood stage for Lake P (from Wikipedia): In 2007, the United States Army Corps of Engineers published results from a year long study intended primarily to determine the canal's "safe water level" for the 2007 hurricane season. The Corps of Engineers divided the 4.8 miles (7.7 km) of walls and levee into 36 sections to analyze just how much storm surge each can withstand. It found that only two sections, those closest to Pump Station No. 6 and on the high ground of Metairie Ridge, can hold more than 13 feet (4.0 m) of water. Many other sections of walls and levees can't be counted on to contain more than 7 feet (2.1 m) of water.[9]
Mr Torchey
plaquemines parish president live on twc ......mississippi river is splashing over the river levees.......they were not worried about the levees because of record low river levels due to drought. The surge has turned the flow of the river north, not panicking but very concerned, especially since this is just the beginning.
CT Rain
Agree with LL, lots of sanity in this thread, sans Kevs BS, the constant barrage of waves and surge is going to lay havoc on a lot of folks and their property outside the city proper. You guys think this stalled? Looks like it is drifting southwest now back offshore.

I would have loved to ride this one out in a secure place on the water. 24-36 hours of these winds would be awesome.
