Quick transition either way, it's still mostly sunny in NW DC. Dark clouds encroaching.

That sharp transition between sun and stormcloud (sic?) actually made the sky look rather ominous and picturesque, but if the derecho was a rowdy Doberman, this is a stuffed Chihuahua. I dragged my daughter up to Ft. Reno to see it and left early because she didn't want to get caught in heavy rain. Still waiting on the first drop.

Speaking of the weather event of 2012, I've sometimes wondered what the derecho would have looked like as it approached if it had been daylight.

BWI got a 43 mph gust. I got to 24 mph. Storm line died and re-formed right on me. Got some great pics between the two actions.

Cell that developed just north of bwi helped re-enhance outlfow and I received a gust over 50, and I'm wondering what happened up near essex and eastern baltimore city where velocities were indicative of some solid potentially severe gusts.
