DCA finally got in on a pop up.. .59" as of last report.

Where do you get the intra-hourly reports from? I see that the 19:52 report for DCA shows 0.42 inches for the last hour (http://w1.weather.go...story/KDCA.html), but I can't find a later update.

That should take driest Jan-Aug out of play.

Right -- that would bring the year-to-date total to 17.99 inches at DCA, vs 17.79 inches in DC through August in 1930.

Last night's surprise t-storm dumped .65" IMBY, and made for a really poor night's sleep. Hard to believe such a storm could exist in such cool temps and low dew points (at 11 PM DP was 58 and temp was 65). There was a lot of lightning, as well as some gusts in the 30 mph range (estimated). The storm lasted about an hour, and though there were some periods of heavy, windswept rain, most of the rain was moderate.

This morning is glorious out here, however. 55F when I stepped outside. Outside a 8 or 9 day dryspell last week, our summer of T-storms continues. Received 1.5" between Monday afternoon and last night. I wish I were keeping records, but since the derecho (June 30) I bet we've had 20 t-storms that have produced measurable rain, and a few more that gave us at least a light show and a cool-down.

If the weather cooperates next month and into October it could be a very good year for autumn foliage.

Thanks, Ian. Interesting that Weather Underground has that information available on-line prior to the National Weather Service.

I don't know why the NWS main site doesn't show the special METARs. Maybe just for continuity. Wunderground and others grab and use the data as soon as it comes out. I like http://weather.rap.ucar.edu/surface/ for looking up METARs because you have the option for raw or translated and can go a few days back, but there are a number of other sites that also have the data.

Cursed again here, Probably about 78 raindrops here in the burg. Leesburg, where storms come to die.

It's that little hill on the way to Front Royal that does us in all of the time on systems coming from the West.....learned that about 6 years ago Dave....my first two years here were like WTF...why did it dry up...after 8 years I have given in to the hill...we are in a rainshadow of the mountains....works great for us though in winter as the deform band almost always forms to our West and moves over us....I moved here for snow not rain....so far so good.

Thanks for that webpage. Perhaps the powers that be at the National Weather Service figure that true weather geeks can always find what they're looking for elsewhere, but I find it odd that the NWS main site is not the best place to turn to for up-to-the-minute weather information.

Fun fact: Even though the raw/decoded menu only goes back to 60 hours, if you change the 60 hour time span in "&hoursStr=past+60+hours" to something like "&hoursStr=past+768+hours" to go back the maximum archive length of 32 days.

Nice.

Plymouth St has it back to '98, but the interface is kind of clunky http://vortex.plymouth.edu/sa_parse-u.html

Do you mean Beacon Hill just west of town or up by snickers Gap on the Loudoun/Clarke county line? Purcellville and Hamilton always seems to get rain and then it fizzles or splits as it approaches Rt 9 and Beacon Hill and we get missed. It is frustrating but damn it is also very interesting as to why it does that here. Since I left far NWNJ where we got every storm, I sure realize how much I miss it. There has to be something here or with the river close by that does this. Our congressmen/woman need to look into this. We should be able to apply for drought disaster relief.

:lmao: It's like it ran into a black hole.

Indeed
