was woken up at 1130 by a house shaking rumble of thunder, good god was it loud. now our tvs don't work :(

Missed most of the action IMBY in Columbia. Great light show to the north from the Tuesday evening NW=>NE Balto cell. One heavy downpour after 11pm gave us 0.12" for the evening, after 0.06" in the morning.

So, an above-average rainfall day.

Cup is half-full, I guess.

Anybody going to play Berk's new FB game?

Props to him if he can make a profit off of it, but I still have to facepalm at the concept of having everyone and their mother try to guess tomorrow's high. People seem to like doing it, though, so if he can't find a met job he's at least trying to find a way to make money in the meantime (or so it seems).

Social media is overrated IMO. It has its perks but it's not a money making venture unless you're talking at the margins. People get so caught up in the feedback that it seems more impressive than it is. Sounds boring to do every day of the year... I doubt he'll have a lot of people do it long term.

Here's the past 60 days according to radar estimates. Anywhere from less than 2" in parts of southern MD, to 10"+ around York, and heck, even Howard county.

Clearly denotes the terrain and seabreeze enhanced areas. Also maybe that BWI north potomac highland area where the southerly flow off the bay might help to fuel some storms. That is one hell of a precip hole down to the south wow.

I dont think I have ever bitched about not getting rain

If I had the time I would go back but I dont have the time, but you know what I mean. things like oh man it is gonna fringe us or miss us again, that type of things. Besides dont take everything so literally., I was joking with you and Fozz about that for the most part.

Eye-opener of a rainfall chart. My sliver of NE Balt City has done far better than I would have guessed. No further complaining/"fringed" comments from me at this point...

Also, looking at that map, surprised parts of DC inside the beltway are no higher given a few of the storms that sat over parts of that area this summer. Guessing not enough of those to push those areas to the yellows...

Further musing, been a long time since we have had an area-wide all-day soaking rain (explaining that precip hole). Hoping we can start to get some of that to return soon.

Just cause I've said "fringed" doesn't mean I'm complaining about lack of rain

no offense to the public but they should have no say where a station is... none of them even know how accurate DCA is or isnt.

The public should have no say in a lot of things...won't stop them from thinking otherwise. Remember - a derecho is worse than a hurricane and the public won't be told otherwise!

It's a topic for another thread but I will say that while it's all great that the public is taking more of an interest in weather and climate...it's probably being done the wrong way or they aren't grasping it properly. Could go either way at this point - 1) increased awareness or 2) complete failure and misinterpretation of terminology/guidelines etc.etc. etc.
