Finally on Monday temperatures begin to cool down according to climo...the avg at my location is 85 from July9 to Aug6, then a slow decline in temps until the end of august when the average high is 81...the "dogs days", typically from July 3 to Aug 11 are also coming to an end...sweeeeettttt....this board has beat itself up the past year, from irene until now, no real weather of interest to track...heres to the decline of summer and the start of fall, frosts, cooler temps, changing leaves and even snow.

And the rebirth of the NYC subforum.

its still going to be hot and hopefully people will finally admit this was a hot summer

It has been a hot summer so far...not amazingly hot like 2010...but somewhat hotter than normal.

2002?

I was only 19. Can barely remember the fall except for the cold Holloween. In addition, that Septmember was really warm.

Plus that was 10 years ago. That's a hell of a stretch without back to back below normal cool and cold seasons. We've had countless back to back above normal seasons since then.

It's been a slightly hotter than average summer thus far, mostly due to the past month (not June). Have to wait another month to determine whether it was a hot summer or not. No comparison to 2010 though IMO.

Question is - is this August going to turn out like last august where the beginning of the month was hot then after that it cooled down significantly with much above normal record precip ? Newark will hit 27 90 degree days so far through today last year there were 31 total and 2010 54 total - so its been a hot summer so far - will it continue ?

The last "cold" fall in these parts was in 1976...

Though 1988, 1993, and 1997 were reasonably cool falls.

Maybe that's why you went into meteorology and I didn't

I remember seasons prior to that here and there. I remember more the snowstorms.

For example I clearly remember the 2001-2002 fall and winter. I wish I didn't though. I just don't remember many falls. Still it's been 10 years either way since our last cool October/November followed by a good winter. It bothers me that September 2002 was really warm though.

Last September was not that hot. No 90 degree days and only +1.6 at LGA.

I'll be happy when it's "only" -1.6. Every month above normal again and again and that's compared to our warmest 30 year climate reference on record. I'm tired of it. 90% of the months are above normal.

Imagine if our snow threats busted as much as our severe threats...with severe you only have a few minutes warning of an incoming bust, at least with snow you know a day or so before that its not to be.

Truth be told...not always...NWS has issued winter storm warnings many times right at the start of a storm that failed to reach WSW criteria...or even close.
