4.4" of rain today. It has been absolutely crazy. Over 9" has fallen around Archdale per the NWS.

Something is wrong there. I found one station over 4" to my northeast. Just to my west several between 1 and 2". 2.12" here. Seems about right. 9" and we would have been seeing fast water rescues.

I heard of one in Central Davidson Country. I had really heavy rain for long sustained periods today. No doubt the heaviest rain I have ever seen.

Gotta admit...a refreshing change in the air and I like it. That said...it gives me a chance to look at what may be coming down the road and if the globals are any indication we will be heading into a more active and fast pace pattern with more opportunities.

Starting late yesterday and continuing with the two model runs today, the GFS hints (in different ways) at taking the former TD #7 and breaking a piece of that across the Yucatan and quickly developing a cyclone in the Gulf late this upcoming workweek. The 0z run in particular developed an 850 vort fast enough to where it gets picked up in the mid-latitude flow...

It will be interesting to see what the future trends are in relation to that region...

Robert has an update on his site this morning talking about the pattern change in the northern latitudes...if anyone on here has yet to subscribe to his site, I would highly suggest spending the 10 bucks a month, he has been very spot-on the entire summer.

Picked up 1.25 last night. Fixed the rain gauge situation IMBY. Guy about 1/2 mile down the road confirmed we have had 5.3 inches of rain since last Sunday. I can tell up toward High Point/Trinity there was some heavy rain last night. The Uwharrie River is well out of it's banks down this way. Amazing turn of events in just 7 days.

Today was a sign that fall isn't too far away. Of course we will still have some more hot days, but at least there is an end in sight. It was 59 here this morning and looks like another low in the 50's tonight. Pretty unusual for Mid-August. We definitely didn't have any breaks in the heat the last 2 summers like we have had this summer.

It did feel great this weekend, didn't it?? It seems to me this summer was just about as lousy as last summer temp-wise. I certainly hope this winter doesn't follow suit.

It still felt pretty warm to me when I wasn't in the shade. After all, the sun is still pretty strong since it's only August. But in the shade, it just felt amazing. Love the lower humidity !

Had a fantastic 54.8 this morning.

Damn..just think...5 degrees away from the 40's. Amazing.

You can't ask for better this time of year. It was 58.9 here this morning for a low. Considering where we normally are and how hot it can actually be, man...pretty impressive to say the least.

And as RW said, this is after that absurd and record breaking heat wave we had. Strange summer.

Look at all that rain in Alabama headed our way... Or is it ? FFC says mostly sunny today and only a 30% chance tonight. Is there another case of where storms magically disappear when they reach the Georgia border ?

I would imagine this is the case, no slight risk for GA today, but then again it could end up holding together and turning into a surprise for us. ^_^

Here is GSP's explanation of said rainfall potential:

AS OF 145 PM...THE MAIN THING OF CONCERN FOR THIS UPDATE IS A LINE OF CONVECTION CROSSING CENTRAL TN AND AL ATTM. THE MODELS DO NOT SEEM TO BE HANDLING THIS VERY WELL. ATTM...IT STILL LOOKED LIKE THE LINE WILL LOSE STEAM AS IT ENCOUNTERS STABLE AIR OVER ERN TN AND GA. WITH THAT SAID...THE LATEST RAP BRINGS INSTBY WITH THE LINE (AS IT IS NOT MOVING VERY FAST)...SUCH THAT THE SW NC MTNS DO DEVELOP ABOUT 1000-1500 J/KG OF CAPE BY 23Z AS THE LINE ARRIVES. THE CONVECTION WILL HAVE THE ASSOCIATED MCV TO HELP WITH FORCING AS WELL. SO ANOTHER UPDATE MAY BE NEEDED SHORTLY TO BUMP UP POP THERE. FOR SURE...THE MOISTURE WILL SPREAD IN THIS EVENING/OVERNIGHT BRINGING MAINLY MID AND HIGH CLOUDS. SOME SHWRS MAY SURVIVE INTO THE NC MTNS THRU DAYBREAK. TEMPS ARE STILL FCST TO DROP TO NORMAL OR EVEN A CATEGORY BELOW (THO THOSE MAY BE TOO COOL GIVEN EXPECTED CLOUD COVER).

Thus, who knows? You might get lucky and see it hold together long enough. Time will tell...

Looks like its starting to dry up as I type, but several showers and storms breaking out ahead of the main line.....maybe we'll get lucky but I'm not holding my breath. Its been a really long time since I've seen a MCS make it all the way across the south including N. Ga.
