After a foot of rain in July at my house August has been steady but not as bountiful. With that said we are still getting big rains and i'm up to around 6-7 inches(depends on what I got from todays big storm) and a few days of rain left in the month means that total is only going to go up.

Under the new global warming edition of southern folklore guidelines, this means you now have a 50% chance of seeing at least 11 flakes this winter.

I saw a picture of the train station on top of Jungfrau recently. In the 60's you walked out the door and onto the snow, in the middle of summer. Now you walk out the door to a 50' drop, it looks like :) I expect they'll be finding things in the snowless Alps now, that will make the Ice Man look like a curiousity.

And, I'm slightly curious as to why I've had 6 rainless days now. Must be because all the concentration is on the hurricane. T

Wow, I just talked to my brother-in-law and he was right in the middle of this in downtown CHS, where he lives. He almost got stuck several times in his car. Twice, he was forced to go the wrong way on one way streets to avoid getting stuck. He saw people kayaking downtown. This was about as bad a flooding event in downtown CHS as he could recall in recent years. He said that as bad as it was, it could have been worse had it been high tide. The tide was actually near dead low when the heaviest rain fell. Downtown got ~4" within about a three hour period! This was at least indirectly related to Isaac, even though it was located in the Gulf almost to LA, whose large circulation brought in copious amount so moisture from off of the Atlantic. From the NWS at 1:06 PM:

...A FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 230 PM EDT FOR SOUTH

CENTRAL BERKELEY AND CENTRAL CHARLESTON COUNTIES...

THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

AT 105 PM EDT...RADAR INDICATED VERY HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUING TO

FALL ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. RADAR RAINFALL ESTIMATES AND COCORAHS

OBSERVERS INDICATE THAT WIDESPREAD RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES

HAS FALLEN IN MUCH OF THE WARNED AREA SINCE 10 AM...WITH LOCAL

AMOUNTS LIKELY WELL IN EXCESS OF 6 INCHES. REPORTS FROM LOCAL

MEDIA...LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THE PUBLIC INDICATE NUMEROUS ROADS

FLOODED AND IMPASSIBLE IN DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON AS WELL AS PARTS OF

WEST ASHLEY AND MOUNT PLEASANT. IN ADDITION...THERE HAVE BEEN DOZENS

OF PEOPLE RESCUED FROM THEIR VEHICLES AND A REPORT OF WATER ENTERING

THE LOBBY OF THE STERN CENTER AT THE COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON.

The radar returns down that way were pretty intense during that period. I was hoping it'd come this way! But yeah, those streets in CHS are crazy and I always make some one else drive on a Sunny day for sure. By any chance was he located around the Battery's seawall? I bet that looked amazing.

Not nearly as much as I had hoped but still a decent amount 1.08" so far.

Keep hope alive...some of that rain may find us yet if last nights Doc is any indication. Might take a week.......... :) And we still have another storm out there....but I'm hoping to see some of Isaac's moisture get dragged back this way eventually. T
