Greg, I had my last 90+ Sept. 14th last year, so I'm not holding out a lot of hope, that they are past :) Summer has a way of hating me down to it's last breath. Meanwhile, Chris and I count our rain totals in tenths, while it seems the rest of the south, even to include Metalic man, in south Ga., count rain in inches. I guess drought just loves some of us much more, lol. Even when it rains here, most times it is drought rain :) T

Can't believe you are still having a hard time getting rain in your backyard Tony. That's got to change soon, right? I agree with you about the 90's. I am afraid we will have more opportunities even after this week.

Nice steady drizzle in Weaverville (.08")....at this point I will take what I can get.

Ya Don we had some great rains this morning! I did notice this morning when I went to Mission that the rain was much lighter than in Haywood County. It had started to rain in Haywood about 4:30 this monring. Also it is raining again at my house again. Very good soaking with total so far at about an inch and a half with a cool temp of 65 degrees. Had a high today of 73 degrees. Beautiful!

After I thought I would get completely screwed out of this trough there was a nice heavy shower this evening (no thunder) and I picked up .70". 4.55" this month. 12" in two months.

It's a hit or miss proposition to be certain. My area has been rather fortunate compared to you and Tony. As luck would have it, we swung and missed most of today. Enough rain to dampen the ground and that's about it. Glad to hear you got some.

One thing that sticks out to me is the amount of mushrooms in my yard. I was playing ultimate frisbee earier and it seemed like everywhere I would step there would be a mushroom. This has been a strange August. I picked up .3" yesterday with most of that coming overnight. My MTD is somewhere around 3.5" or so.

Not only have we seen a ton of mushrooms in the last few weeks, but also a lot of early leaf-fall. Many trees, especially maples and walnut, are yellowing and falling with just the gentlest of breezes. Upon closer inspection, the leaves are also spotted with dead zones (from what I can determine anyway). Even my wife commented that the amount of leaf droppings are seemingly abnormal. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

The extreme heat caused a lot of stress on plants and trees.the effects can take awhile to show up,which they react to by early coloration, and leaf drop.I have a bradford pear in my front yard that got hit by 2 different pea size hail events earlier this spring, all the leaves have brown spots from actual hail hitting the leaves, and it has been dropping lots of leaves all summer.picked up .88 yesterday.

.17" yesterday

4.29" for the month

Dang, I'm glad the rain is finally finding your yard. I was getting worried :) I picked up .72 yesterday in one early morning batch, then again last night. I'm pretty sure I'm over a foot since July 3rd.

And I too have toadshrooms everywhere, some are real dung ugly things. T

Beautiful day! Low humidity, high clouds and temps near 80 today. Feels like an early fall day. I'm shocked nobody else mentioned it.

Many more days like this to come over the next few months. Most of the heat is behind us. We may hit 90 a few more times, but just knowing that fall is close makes it easier to tolerate the heat. Also the angle of the sun is getting lower by the day and makes the heat more tolerable in late summer I believe.

If there must be heat in the summer, Summer 2012 did it right. The heat did not come in the beginning or the ending of the summer. It came right in the middle of meteorological summer, from the very last days of June through the first five days of August. That is so much better than an early June blast, or even worse, heat that extends into late August.
