CoastalWx
It's always tough to tell with a still image, but it also has some interesting characteristics near the base of the actual CB. But if you saw no rotation, it probably is scud I suppose.

Is it frictional forces?

Is it frictional forces? Scud is just rising air condensing into cloud filaments. You can have scud clouds around a meso, but in that case you obviously have a rotating updraft. CoastalWx
Thanks. I appreciate it. A lot of times you can get it in a rain cooled atmosphere. That causes the LCL (level at which clouds form) to be lower since it is already moist and rain cooled, and you can get scud to develop very low to the ground. Thunder Road
Northern New England is absolutely beautiful! Specifically, Vermont and Franconia Notch. We did the Ben & Jerry's Factory yesterday, and Wildcat Mountain, The Flume Gorge and Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves today. I want to live up here someday. Ok, carry on... S&P
Eh, I think people overrate SSTs to be honest. We always hear about that. Everyone said that after summer 2010, and I had one of the best winters ever. getting out of my swim lane here speculating on future weather, but from my experience living right on the water, LL is correct. elevateed SSTs keep our dews up well into sept if the wind is onshore at all affecting our overnight lows. this has been evident the past few days with dews down here in the upper 60's. there are many days in sept i agonize over putting the AC on because its not that warm, but i want to keep the moisture out of the house. If we have continuous SW winds, then the warmth and humidity is simply due to the pattern. I mean maybe it helps it out a couple of degrees, but it's not GOM air coming in. Well to be fair you said +2 or better. That's a large range. I had 1.3-1.9 so I'm pretty happy for that range. Someone can do the math to see what the deal is. BOX can mess up too with that. Go look for yourself made that call back in June, another victory second or third this year. BOX could have certainly made an error, I could care less its all too funny LOL

dendrite
Their math is wrong in the F6...the raw data comes out to 75.32 which, last I checked, rounded to 75.3 which would be +1.9.
