If I understand it correctly, the runway would be equipped with ILS which is what's needed to land in something where cigs are below 500' etc.

From what I read it looks like they have the lowest level of ILS... think they are upgrading categories to a more advanced system.. some of the newer ILS can practically land by itself

ORH may get an ILS upgrade to the airport...meaning planes can land in low clouds and fog. They don't really have that right now. That's going to greatly improve the usefulness of the airport if it happens.

They need to lengthen their runway though to lure more commercial airlines in there...the ILS may convince some of them to come in anyway...they did get their main runway to like exactly 7,000 feet.

There is so much time the airport is shrouded in fog. There's also a 110 foot hill less than 1 mile short of the runway when coming in from the 290 direction on the main runway. Most planes actually land in from the 110 direction because of that.

Heading to Falmouth for the week, hopefully we get some some days for beaching and boating, forecast looks ok.

Enjoy!

Good terminal, parking, etc.

Sort of a pain to get to (wrt roads in and out), but that would be great.

There is a bit of a push to try to lure them via social media...

When I lived in Worcester, I'd rent my cars for work from the locations at the airport. What an eerie thing it is to go into that terminal. The only people there are the sole people working in each of the 4-6 rental car company desks. The rest of the lights are dimmed, escalators not moving, and not a sound. Kind of post-apocalyptic.

Managed to get about .5" overnihgt. Sun's out after early morning fog/overcast, things feeling a bit drier, though feels warm in the sun.

Out of curiosity which commercial airlines already fly to ORH?

Jet Blue would be able to operate there with the runway length. They fly into MVY and the runway there is just over a mile. So we're talking small commercial aircraft, but that would be a good boost for the airport and ORH. Logan can be such a PITA to deal with for people who don't live close. Shuttles do help..I've taken it before.

I don't know if there is a place for another regional airport with several commercial airlines. Manchester, Hartford, Portland, Providence already seem to fit the need.

It's a big city with a decent metro population..especially on the east side of it. Having some flights in and out would be a good thing, but it won't be like a PVD, BDL, or MHT.
