Allenson, what is that site? Kinda like Mystery Hill?

Yeah, not as extensive but similar. It's a 'stone circle' on the top of Burnt Hill--1800' or so. It's all lowbush blueberry barrens like one would see in downeast Maine. There are two pick-your-own operations up there and the stone circle is at one of them. It's all posted land and CCTV signs are everwhere so I couldn't get too close but it's visible and photographable from the road. A good telephoto comes in handy. They were both picked-out and closed for the season, otherwise I would have gone up closer and picked a few quarts in the process.

Anyway, there are more pics of the spot here (along with many other locales):

And an interesting write-up here:

I'm with you. By far the most overrated season going. Summer has some perks obviously but by and large, I'm not the biggest fan. This has been a tough one for me. I don't have the greatest heat tolerance in the world and while not epic hot here, it's been consistently very warm enough where it's growing old. The sun has been relentless.

Speaking of Pete, for all you SNEers, I made it down to God's Country the other day. I've never spent much time in the Berks but being in the orcharding/fruit tree business, I sometimes order gear from a cool outfit in Conway, MA. My wife got me a OESCO gift card last Christmas which I finally cashed in on a 14' aluminum tri-pod pruning ladder. Figured I'd save the shipping and just go down and get in person. Man, it was pretty hot out on I-91 but as soon as I got off and started climbing the east slope, I was in the ice box. ;)

All kidding aside, it was 7-8 degrees cooler in Conway and Ashfield than it was in Greenfield, say. From there, I wound by way up to Burnt Hill in Heath, MA to check out a curious achaeological site I've read about and always wanted to see. Pretty nice country down there. (Not my pic).

Glad you made it down to epxerience GC first-hand. Next time, let me know. Shelburne is just north of Conway and I'm about 5 miles from Heath.

Will-do! I went right through Shelburne Falls after coming down from the hills on twisty dirt roads. Kinda like here. ;)

Lots of Irene damage evident coming down from the hill--Adamsville area. Not so much in terms of houses (that I saw) but recently repaired roads, culverts and some major stream bank erosion visible.

Speaking of rain and on a weather note, got some needed rain coming from what I hear. Bring it!

Very cool. I love that stuff

Ha-ha, me too. Total geek for the unexplained. HP Lovecraft used to summer up there and the standing stones on Burnt Hill were apparently an inspiration for one of his stories....forget which one atm.

I did a search and it seems The Dunwich Horror was inspired by that area and possibly Athol, MA (where I went to the lawyers today)

His stuff always creeped me out

Cthulhu lives!

Sounds good. I'll put in on my to-read list. I haven't read much of his stuff except for a few short stories. My wife's read quite a bit of his work. Creepy indeed.

Cooling off now. Down to 68.

Suppah time.

.

You'd just need to come back up the hills on another twisty dirt road a few miles north of SF to get to the Pit. Yes, the Irene damage is very apparent. Even in SF, there are still trees wedged against the Bridge of Flowers, to say nothing of the damage on the North and Chickley Rivers.

GC is a disturbing place.

LMAO

Just going thru some pics...anyone recognize where this is?

Flume Gorge?

Guess #2 is a small state park in NW CT. Forget the name, but I think it's off Rt. 7 in Kent/Litchfield area???

Minimal help as the heat/ humidity as it just seem to linger all night. The sad thing is when it has cooled down at night and the heat/humidity aren't around outside, the sh*t literally lingers in my house until almost dawn. It is that pathetic.

235 year old crappy-azz house. Now that the big maple on the western side has gone down it's only worse.

I need to move to Alaska. Where is that AWESOME place that Pete always talks about going to? Maybe he can give me a lift in his helicopter.

maybe a little cheaper and less disruptive to your family are these Mitsubishi (or any) ductless heat and cooling systems. see them a lot in europe with the older structures

I look'd at models and my local forecast and all that blah blah blah....is there anything in the set up on friday/saturday that says well there could be some am rain then skies may brighten for a couple hours or is that a pipe dream for fri sat...i.e it will most likely be socked in all day. thx guys

don't know enough too forecast, but anecdotally, last sunday we stayed cloudy (just a few short breaks) all day while many others enjoyed bright sunshine. i'd be surprised if saturday doesn't turn out that way. you may do ok the other days though
