Given how little instability we have up here and the obvious weakening of the echoes I can say with some confidence that there's not a heck of a lot going on of note. But this type of event is an incredible challenge for a radar operator... as much as almost any I've seen. Even a few hours ago down in CT where there actually was a chance of tornadic spinups it would've been maddening. In most cases, little vortices we can pick up fairly easily because synoptically one can pinpoint where they might be: certain places on the leading edge of a squall line, or embedded in mini-hooks in weak supercells. But this is freakin roulette with so many mini-couplets and such complex flow.

Seems from that radar display winds were very impressive over and just east of hfd. Landphoon died out n of 84. Hopefully rev got pics. Would think a few miles ssw of appleman would be good spot to start looking

West side of meso low or whatever you want to call it had strong winds so it could be from a combo of things.

Noted the report of tree down in Taunton. Could have been caused by lightning. Was offline with computer down for about 1/2 hour due to a few VERY VERY close lightning strikes here at the abode. Torrential rain lasted about 25-30 minutes, then ended. Unfortunately, no rain gauge here (in a condo), but saw report of about 1.6" or so at KTAN (I'm about 2 miles W as the crow flies), 1.27" between about 5-6 PM. Rather impressive storm, though did not note any gusty winds here.

Wiz, did you hear where that tree was down here in Taunton? If you can find out, that would be great. I'm sure they are still swamped at KBOX right now and really don't want to bother them. Thanks!

There were two reports of trees down on Shore St...one report was a tree into a house. Believe it was 129 Shore.

Correction...downed wires only on Shore St...there was a tree with wires down on Fremont St.

Paul,

Think that is going to be Shore Drive, near Lake Sabbatia. Very close to Fremont Street as well. No Shore Street on Google Maps. Shore Drive only about 1/2 mile E of Fremont.

Dave is right about Short Street, in the N end of Taunton (route 140), and that isn't too far away from those other two streets either. Weird, but those three streets could be connected in a W-E line not far S of KBOX.

It was actually Shores St Rob said...not Shore.

True but it is comical to see no warning for the thing until it crosses into a new CWA and doesn't look any better than before.

I have a feeling most of the damage is straight line wind damage. Rotation was awfully broad.... there was virtually no gate to gate shear for a while with a very broad rotation over 10-20 km.

I thought those were automated, though ?

Heh, we can't buy a thunderstorm up here along Rt 2. Ever since that renegade unseasonable supercell came rolling down the Mohawk Trail in late March with overlapping thunderclaps and 1 inch hail, I really don't recall hearing thunder here at my house since. Down in Westborough at the office we've had several decent thunderstorm days this summer but it seems like the atmosphere has some physical property to decay convection anywhere close to norther Worcester and northern Middlesex, but only when I am here, interestingly. I was in Michigan last week and saw back-building severe convection on radar up this way, so missed it. Then today, nice wall of death coming north and poof... I don't think we got more than .75" of rain and it was all gentle.
